Went to my folks' house this weekend. It was fun-- we went to Irish Fest 2000 (dumb name, yes) and saw Danu (will link to their website sometime) and Tommy Makem (I guess he's got Makem.com, or his sons have. Not sure, didn't look at it yet). Both were awesome.
too long a sacrifice may make a stone of a heart
when will it suffice? that is heaven's part.
Tommy was in fiery spirits, and I finally learned the true story behind Nell Flaherty's drake. He sang that song at age 16 for the BBC, and they never knew it was a song of rebellion. It was about Robert Emmett, an Irish hero executed in 1803 or so, but the lyrics were all about a duck. With yellow legs, a white body, and a green head-- like the Irish flag.
It was a bit obscure, but easy enough to follow. I knew it was a rebellion song when I learned it in high school. But, he was right, it sounded innocent.
Anyhow. Sunday I went to hang out with Grandma, while Dave and Dad puttered, making our Eagle Lamp Server. I'll post pictures of both activites later. :D
OK, it's time to leave work. Not a moment too soon!
