As an author on AO3 the best feeling in the world is– well, it’s hard to quantify. But one of my favorite things is this:
It’s when you get one of those emails from the archive, listing all the kudos you’ve gotten since the last time they emailed you (i honestly have no idea what determines when you get the notification)–
and some hapless reader has left kudos
on every
single
thing
you’ve written
and it is the best feeling to look at that list and realize HOW MANY HOURS that represents, that that person was immersed in your reality.
I usually cackle out loud. Poor sap! You really got sucked in!
So did I, that’s why I wrote it!
That’s the kind of notification you really roll around in. Ha ha ha!
(Relatedly is when you get one of those emails every day and you notice the same username a few days in a row and you realize someone’s working their way through your entire oeuvre a little more sensibly. You can roll around in that too, a little less gleefully but no less sincerely.)
