Oh Tumblses, I have been sitting in the corner of my sofa watching out my big east-facing picture window as the most astonishing little sunrise unfurled, and I have no photos of it because it’s not really photographable, but I’m going to make a pointless and boring text post about it anyway because it’s just been so sublime.
I started off with a small gray cat urgently shedding hair into my face, and I looked over and the sky was just showing a tint of pink in the clouds in the middle. (I look out across a high school football field, and the “picture” window is from the fifties so it’s only rectangular, not really the whole wall, so it’s like watching the world on a large-screen TV, and the angle is such that the street passes by with car roofs showing in the bottom part of the TV. Mostly, from the couch across the small room, I look at sky.)
The little tint of pink kind of unfurled, and when I next looked up the whole sky was brilliant pink, all in shadows and highlights of the same hue in dramatic fluffy thick clouds.
I got up to get coffee, and came back to the cat in the window silhouetted, and now the sky was fading. I looked down, and when I looked up again it had changed and was now a melting center of gold streaking out along the clouds, and the rest of the sky in dark blue. The clouds are advancing rapidly, which is odd because the weather normally goes west-to-east, but the clouds are streaming out of the east toward me, and the gold is dissipating now. We’re mostly blue, but for a few peachy-gold highlights on the clouds. And now I can see the heads of the schoolboys hurrying past on the sidewalk to get to school before the bell rings.
(The cat watches them, and judges them. Sometimes she gets excited and stalks them, if they’re running and shouting at each other.)
