Got the whole wedding outfit on today and had Z take some pictures. (He described them as "artless". I pointed out that they were a damn sight better than the blurry dark mirror pics I had just attempted.) So I'll download those later and put 'em online to show off. My journal has been super boring lately, all long text rants and no pics. Well, I think it was always like that, it's just that the Internet has become generally more interesting since I started. I flatter myself I haven't changed. (I have.) Anyway.
Corset is uncomfortable. Wish I'd made real stays. That's OK. 4th of July event = test: if there are interesting people doing 18th-C stuff locally, I'll probably bother to make real stays, and will readjust the fit of this jacket to suit. (In addition I'll probably make more outfits.) If the people are kind of a drag, I'll be glad I didn't spend the time, and will only improve my kit with SCA-friendly things. (Since the SCAdians don't really give a rat's ass, I can sort of wear whatever the hell I want. If I make up a brocade or velvet version of this jacket and wear it with a leather corset and call myself a pirate queen, they're likely to be down with that. Depending where I go dressed like that. In the Swamp, they're likely to think I'm awesome. Up Top, well, I won't go there like that. N.B. if I had a brocade or velvet version of this jacket, with long sleeves, I would wear it in the winter as part of everyday wear. Frealz. Wait til you see pictures of the linen one, it's pretty sharp. Patterns of Fashion, people! Good ol' Janet Arnold.)
Anyway.
I dearly want proper 18th-c shoes. Really I want these. . Drooool. Modern last = I'd totally wear those with modern clothes. I fantasize that after Pennsic I'll actually sit down and make myself clothes I can wear to work. I have some patterns in the works. Swing skirts and supportive sundresses and the like. Those shoes would be fucking gorgeous with, say, a brown and black square-necked princess-seamed supportive dress, low knee-length with a swishy skirt, with a black lace bolero and perhaps gold trim, if I fastened the shoes with gold buckles or a black and gold ribbon/rosette. Especially if I had black lace tights. Which I do.

I dress like a schlump but I'd love to dress better. Really I would. If only I had more hours in a day. And money for fabric.

Speaking of which I'm working overtime today, mostly to make the delivery from the store half a mile from my house to the store 10 miles from my house, which is where I work; if it's busy at my store, which is likely (it's raining: everyone independently comes up with the idea of making prints / camera shopping on rainy days, and is astonished when everyone else does the same), I'll probably stay there to help. There should be 3 people on on Saturdays, and there always used to be, but nobody likes working Saturdays. I would, except that I have commitments all over hell and Creation every weekend lately. This is my only weekend "off" so far this spring/summer, and guess what? I'm working today! Yeah oh well.

That bird that cries "Keer keer, whipwhipwhipwhipwhip," is that a cardinal? (I think so, I think I've heard it described as "Cheer, cheer". Human interpretations of birdsong are fun.) Anyway, I've got one. Chita was in a yelling contest with a robin this morning, then a sparrow. I don't know what they were thinking.

Oh yes, they are lovely! And would totally look good with modern clothes - certainly better than most modern shoes.
