pinched nerve again
May. 21st, 2010 07:58 amI can't take June off from skating. I can't do it.
I skated Sunday, bruised knee and hip, and decided to give Tuesday a miss, though more out of general run-down-ness than either of those contusions being that severe.
Wednesday I had awful pains in my *other* hip, sciatic nerve-type stuff. So I went for a walk, and it felt a bit better after I got warmed up and moved a bit. Thursday I had issues with both hips, finding it hard to walk or stand for prolonged periods. I probably could have alleviated it with some yoga or something, but went to practice instead and skated. On the way in the door, the awkward way I have to stand to hold my skate bag tweaked my hip and made it so I couldn't even stand upright. I (really) hobble-crawled to my seat, put my skates on, and as I took my first few laps I felt the pain easing. I really could feel it very clearly in my right hip, my outside foot during regular-direction laps: as I moved with a normal skating motion, it worked the hip in the socket and felt like it opened up the tense parts. It took me until I'd just begun to break a sweat for the pain to stop totally; I took it easy during the first warmup drill and it worked its way out and I felt fine.
And then I aggravated the pinched nerve in my neck, so I had to cut short my participation in the last drill of the night (I'd've been fine except we were lying on our backs doing leg-lifts at one point, and that just hurt a lot lot lot) and take some ibuprofen and go get my gear off.
I can't really turn my head this morning.
But my hips and legs and back feel great.
No, I didn't ask the physical therapists about any of this while I was seeing them. Because it wasn't happening. Because it only happens when I take time off skates.
I'm stuck in my workout routine!!
