So Z has been debating buying himself a Google phone. I don't know what a Google phone is; I'm sort of ignorant about things. But out of nowhere he said something about it, and then he blogged about it, and he's really been thinking about it.
We don't really do Valentine's day, but we had sort of a lame Christmas and so I thought, oh, you know, I should get him this phone! I didn't buy him anything memorable for his 30th birthday-- some shoes, I think? and a t-shirt? Nothing awesome, though he does wear the shoes every day-- But then I thought, well, he manages our phone plan, and I don't know if this phone would work on our plan. I don't think so. So we'd have to split it up, and i'm not 100% positive how that would work. And I'm not even sure which phone it is that he wanted.
So I told him this, and he was astonished I'd even considered buying it for him. He hadn't really made up his mind whether he wanted to buy it or not. He knew he wanted it, but he wasn't sure if it was practical.
I suggested he give his old but serviceable iPhone to his mother, who had borrowed mine during a family emergency and liked it so much she wants one. Then she and I could remain on the AT&T family plan, and he could get his own T-Mobile plan. He's not sure he's going to, but he did go ahead and order the phone.
And then today while I was at a morning scrimmage (the day after a bout, many teams don't practice, so we split a double session with the other team that didn't bout last night, and had us a really super-fun scrimmage) he went online and ordered me a new computer battery and a fancy schmancy pillow, since my laptop battery now has a life of maybe 10 minutes and my neck has been having a lot of crack-pop-ick issues lately.
So V-day has become, for us, a way of buying the things we didn't get for Christmas. ;)
I had a hot date this morning with about forty women and maybe five refs, so I need to go shower off some stank. (I had to request off work because the scrimmage went until 11:45, work starts at 12, and it's half an hour away. And I do mean, we were skating until 11:50, and then had to take our gear off. So I would've showed up half an hour late and starving and stinky as hell, and i'm the one with the key to the door. No good!) But then Z and I are probably going to just hang around until evening, when we'll roast a chicken for dinner. Mmm.
This is our seventh Valentine's Day together, I think, and I don't think we've done anything fancy any of those times. But I think we've had fun, so it doesn't really matter.
There was a bout last night. One team one by like seventy points or something; I don't remember. My favorite moment of the whole bout, though, was when at one point, after a jam that had gone particularly badly for the team that didn't win, their coach ran down the length of the bench and high-fived each one of them. I thought that was really sweet. I hope it makes the highlight reel.
