double birthday
Oct. 21st, 2009 09:02 amHappy birthday to Ursula K. LeGuin, whose work I have long loved but have yet to fully and completely explore, but on a more personal level, happy 0th birthday to my brand-new nephew Caleb, who arrived this morning via C-section (to my sister's dismay, but he was head-up at 38 weeks and wouldn't turn, so it had to be done). I don't know the rest of the details because the pediatrician showed up and she had to hang up, but if she doesn't call back in a couple of minutes I'm going to call my mom instead and get the scoop from her, since she probably got the phone call at 4:30 am when it happened!
I'd had tentative plans to go visit Mom and Dad this weekend, but I'm glad I didn't. Though I don't know if they'll be zipping down to see the new baby immediately, or waiting a little since this is the second one. But still, poor Katy-- as I recall she recovered quickly from David, but a C-section is much harder to just get up and go afterward. She hates being sick and she hates being hurt, so a big ol' C-section incision is going to be a real hassle for her. But a healthy child-- I hope? I still haven't really heard?-- is not too shabby at all.
Anyway. I have to get working on that birth sampler, then! I was going to, today, a little, among other things, but I guess I have to get cracking a bit faster...
