So I'm going to perfect this recipe this winter, fo sho.

Here's my trial draft, based off experimentation last year. Serves 2. Not all these ingredients are necessary. I was just messing around.

2 cups red wine, the cheaper the better. If it is sweet, go easy on the sweet ingredients below. If it is not, don't.
About 1 shot triple sec
about 2 Tbsp honey
about 1/2 c water
1 cinnamon stick
1 chunk dried orange peel if you got it
several whole cloves (oh dear too many makes your tongue numb, so use less than I did-- try 4)
pinch of nutmeg, or a whole one if you got it
four or five raisins, or crushed fresh grapes
small chunk fresh ginger
1 leaf fresh basil if you have it sitting there and figure what the hell
about 1 Tbsp lemon juice
then about 1 tsp white sugar if you think maybe you went overboard with the not-sweet things
Stir well.
Bring to a simmer slowly.
Add about 1 shot spiced rum
and maybe a tablespoonful of brandy if you think maybe it's too sweet
Stir well
turn off heat
Serve (straining a bit as you go-- leave the chunks of ginger etc out) in heatproof goblets or coffee mugs, depending how posh you are.

I could streamline this, and probably will. I just happened to have fresh grapes, and raisins are a thing that goes in mead when you're making it, and I've been wanting to, and kind of was thinking about it. Maybe I'll throw all the solid mush into the batch of mead I want to whip up tomorrow! Hmm. I have all this beautiful racking space in the basement now, I gotta get started!
