things I want for my birthday
Aug. 15th, 2009 09:02 pmI am debating which of the first two things I should ask my parents for.
Unrelated: these are not the things I had ever really expected to be asking for on my 30th birthday. But you know, priorities change.
* sewing machine
* eye exam and new pair of glasses
* someone to pay my emergency room bill from Wednesday
* tropic-weight wool fabric, 60" wide, in any solid color that's also labeled 100% wool, as is currently on sale at Fashion Fabrics Club-- 4-8 yards thereof (I have several garments I want/need to make, either for Pennsic, for the 18th-c wedding I'm in next year, or actually just to have; I want to work with wool some more and all that's in my stash is some very heavyweight stuff)
* a bolt of midweight linen or (better, but more expensive) lightweight linen from Fabrics-Store.com (it's cheaper per yard by the bolt), or at least 4 yards (ditto above bullet point-- I have a year to do a year's worth of sewing, and if I don't start now I'll never finish in time, but I am too flat-broke to buy the materials to start now and it's driving me crazy)
[N.B. If anyone nearbyish is interested in splitting a bolt, let me know-- though I haven't the cash atm to order it, I'll have to come up with it at some point.]
* The "Large Bra Kit" from Bra-Makers Supply in black or white.
* A subscription to Flickr-- my account expired and that makes me sad. (My account there is the same username as at Livejournal.)
* A gift certificate to Jo-Anns: despite their very limited selection in wools and linens, I still manage to spend more money than I can afford there annually. It's the little crap you don't budget for that adds up in the cost of an outfit.
* A necklace with an amber pendant, preferably set in silver or a silver-colored metal. Or a necklace with a pendant in some sort of royal blue stone or glass. I have a lot of earrings and no pendants to wear with them. I don't need expensive, I just need decorative.
I don't know what that list says about me but I am going to go ahead and put it up as a testament to the current state of my life.

Date: 2009-08-16 05:51 pm (UTC)- You can live without the necklace.
- While the cloth would be both practical and necessary, when you can actually
affordsqueeze out the money to make the costumes, you will. Then you'll need the extras.- Yeah, the bra is practical, but not on the 'absolutely necessary' list, with your lifestyle.
- Emergency room? Nobody ever pays that. That's what emergency rooms are for. You didn't ever need credit again anyway, did you?
- Sewing machine ... glasses ... you've got me stumped there. Both really necessary. Too bad I can't afford the new machine I need, so I could give you this one ... I still say, you'll sew no matter what, and it's important to what you want to *be* right now. Go for the Jo-Ann gc.
