Spent today video editing (ARGH) and cleaning/rearranging the bathroom. This involved removing everything not nailed down from in there, mopping the floor like four times because it was so muggy and dirt kept sticking to my feet, wiping the damn floor down with paper towels because there was STILL dirt, scrubbing every surface and every fixture, and facing the fact that I just don't give a shit about organizing things. I really don't.
The bathroom is laid out really stupidly, with a fifteen-inch gap between the marble-topped vanity and the wall. The vanity, by the way, is awful, chipboard with a paper-thin wood veneer that's peeling off. (Hot, I know.)
I set up a set of new shelves I bought at IKEA, and discovered immediately that while I'd measured the space properly, the shelves still didn't fit as I'd expected, because there's a tiny bit of windowsill in the way. Much cursing later, I managed to set it up the other day and fit the baskets onto it. It's not as good as I had thought, but it does work. And is better than the crappy chest of plastic drawers I Dumpster-dived in college. (OK not exactly, but I'm pretty sure they were a roommate's who didn't want them when she moved out.)

So I guess I should try to get a photo of that while it's nice-looking. Only thing I didn't get to was scrubbing the tub, which is perpetually grungy, especially during gardening season when I have grody grody feet even in flip-flops. (I don't think there's a way not to get totally grody.) But everything else is as shiny as I could make it.

I just don't give a crap about making things be organized. Bleh. But it's better than it was, a lot better, and maybe things will be shinier because of it. You spend a lot of time in the bathroom, right?

I also did some work in the living room, which now has space to set up both sewing machines and be a Craft Room Of Crafty Things. (We'll see how that works out.) The main thing I did was set up the old iMac, since I'll need it for DVD-burning tonight. And the cool thing about it was that I figured out how to make it play music both on its own speakers and on the networked speakers, which are on the back porch now. So the whole house had the same music playing-- very neat, though I couldn't really hear anything in the bathroom. Especially since I had a box fan on most of the time so that it wouldn't be ridiculously muggy and wet in there anyway.

Yeah gross weather today. But I think now is the time for ice cream, so I shan't complain. I made dinner out of desperation-- didn't know what to serve, had only random things in the fridge. I made a white pizza from scratch, which Z grilled, because we didn't want to heat up the house with the oven. It turned out really well.
Pizza dough is so easy to make. I don't know why people buy pizzas. They're like, the cheapest thing you can make at home and still actually be full at the end. Having no mozzarella cheese made it less awesome, but I applied garlic liberally, which solves many things, and used the tiny bit of parmesan and the tiner bit of feta we had, with onions and tiny slices of grape tomatoes and lots of olive oil.

Should I post my pizza dough recipe, or would people not be interested? It's really super-easy to make, you just have to set everything up so that once your hands are covered in dough you can still finish making everything.

I cheat. I throw all the ingredients into the bread machine. That takes roughly 45 sec. Then I go do something else while the machine does its thing for 50 min. Then I roll it out...3 min. And then, pizza!

50 minutes???!!!

Mine takes 15 minutes. What on earth does it do that whole time? I like making pizza because I can do it kind of in a hurry.
Eh, I kept meaning to get a bread machine, but I don't have the counter space and I am used to making bread the other way.

15? Does your dough not have to rise? My dough recipe takes about 15 minutes or so, but then it rises for about an hour. I love making pizza from scratch, but I usually relegate it to the weekends because the entire process takes a good 2-3 hours.

OK, half an hour-- it only has to rise 15 minutes, and the rest of the process is about 15 minutes. Mom lets it rise sometimes, but she does it by making the pizza in the morning, topping it, and putting it in the fridge to rise all day until dinner. I guess I will post it!

It's letting it rise in a warm place. Even my directions for by-hand dough say to do that...which is honestly why I use the bread machine. I don't have any warm places in my house, especially in the winter! :)
Maybe the rising isn't necessary? What do you do?

I just posted the recipe-- I don't have to let it rise in a warm place, it just says to let it 'rest' for 15 minutes. Maybe my pizza dough is just way inferior? I've always thought it was pretty good.

I like the idea of having surprisingly superior dough, but I suspect mine is not. I will make yours and then report back on whether it's better than mine. :)

Congrats on the house cleaning!! I hate doing that! Half the time I think forcing ourselves to clean is the main reason we have people over.
Of course, that doesn't work all the time as we are less stringent with the cleaning when they're people we've known forever! Last time we had strangers, however, I actually got down on hands and knees and scrubbed the kitchen floor. (That was loong overdue!)

The pizza sounds yummy. I might have to try to replicate it soon. Both the hubby and kids are pizza fiends. :D
