Not feeling very communicative of late, so will content myself with a sort of list of things done.
It's been gorgeous here for several days. Z and I went for long walks on Friday and Saturday; Friday's was at dusk and somewhat aimless, Saturday's was a bit after noon toward Anderson's for roast beef and frozen custard. It's a lot of exercise for Z.
Friday I got a bit of digging done-- plugging away at the south-of-garage bed, busting sod and pulling out perennials. (Incidentally-- yarrow? Is that what that pink stuff with the feathery leaves is in my garden? Hm. It looks like the line drawing, but... Hm.)
Also got the last of the painting done on the garage door. And two loads of laundry.
Saturday got three loads of laundry done and dried on the line, though the last one got drizzled on and had to be hurriedly collected to hang indoors a bit.
Also started scraping the paint off the garage windows, strategized the garage-cleaning project, noticed that there are all kinds of useful things up in the rafters of the garage (I don't need to buy trellis-making supplies in nearly the quantities I'd thought!). Did a lot of puttering, hours and hours of it, and got a tiny crescent of sunburn along the bit of each shoulder I'd inadequately sunblocked.
Today Z and I got rid of a sumac tree that's been infiltrating the patio area, and I went on to turn over all the soil in the front bed against the house, which was full of this incredibly persistent five-leaved stuff that has very long taproots and spreads by runners with amazing speed and persistence. I've no idea what it is. I should take a picture.
I raked half the lawn, pulling out dead thatch, which I spread on the as-yet unplanted lasagna bed back there and I plan on covering with peat moss and more mulch if I can find it. Shrug. I then spread organic fertilizer on the half of the lawn that I did.
I am insanely tempted to plant one or two of the tomato plants I started, some of which are getting aggressively big. We've got good weather forecast for a while, and the average frost-free date is this week, and average means sometimes it's before then, so how bad could it be??? But I am held back by, um, not having either of the beds I plan to use for tomatoes ready. So I guess I'll be a bit more patient.
It doesn't sound like much when I write it down here. I have been busy. Oh, I have an interview Wednesday, but it's for Job A, which doesn't seem to be taking any of this all that seriously, and will probably only give me a few hours and not pay me much for them.
Oh well-- I guess I can ease out of unemployment. As long as I'm making something. Z may try to negotiate for more $ at work, we'll see, and without the heat bill and with our phone/Internet bill less, we'll be OK if I make, mm, well, some money. Think about it later. Our rent went up, but not by much. And one part-time pooh-pooh whatever job is easier to take time off from, I think, meaning my August of Overcommittedness may be easier.
(Also I may still make little enough to keep my subsidized health insurance. Though it's so expensive, I don't like to think about that. Apparently it's cheaper than any of the alternatives.)
Z's mom bought him glasses for his birthday. I'm really, really jealous. His vision? 20/40. Yes. My word. I think I'm 20/40 WITH my glasses on.
Bummer.
