Chita is so mad that we won't let her outside. So mad. She has been yelling at me constantly for two days now. Just in case I didn't understand.
They put her on antibiotics and a painkiller. Z looked up both of them. The painkiller is widely used in dogs and humans, and less-widely used in cats, especially for arthritis. It has been known to cause kidney failure in cats, and so the dose must be extremely carefully monitored.
She started barfing this morning and couldn't stop. She wasn't producing anything but stomach acid, but she was heaving violently. Between fits of it, she was trying desperately to run away from it. So there wound up being little puddles of kitty stomach fluid all over the bedroom, hallway, and down the stairs to the basement, where she tried to take refuge.
We called the vet, who said to discontinue both medicines. They called us back two hours later and said they were going to give us a different antibiotic instead, and we should discard both the other medications.
(That's $40 worth of medicine, I might mention, down the drain. Plus $15 for the new medicine. Chita, you are never going outside again.)
Chita is recovered, however, and is yelling about going outside.
I am torn on whether to start her on the new antibiotics before we leave, or wait until we come home. We have a bout tonight and so must be out of the house from about 4 pm until probably 2 or 3 am.
Now I have to decide what to wear tonight. I can't call in sick to the bout-- I'm doing jammer stats. So I'm sitting in the middle of the rink. So a crazy costume wouldn't really be appropriate. But all my teammates are wearing things like leather hotpants and corsets and things. So I don't want to be totally boring...
Hm. Oh well.
The only wholly positive thing is that I've gotten some gardening done. I double-dug the bed up against the back of the porch, and have planted it with five different kinds of peas.
Yeah, I like peas. Shut up.
I have more peas, too. And I've started double-digging another bed. The book I have recommends putting in dry brown matter at the bottom when you're double-digging to help improve drainage and lighten heavy soil. Which is good, because I have a huge pile of brown matter (stalks, sticks, root systems, stems, woody things, dry leaves) that I've been accumulating in the driveway as I do spring cleanup, and it's kind of getting to be too much to start a new compost heap with. So putting it in as a soil amendment (I have an ice chopper I'm using to smash the stalks into short bits) is ideal. I just have so much of this stuff...
But I have to go decide what to wear, and decide what to do about my poor kitty. Who is FULL OF IT right now.
