As those of you who followed the qcrgscores twitter know, the Knockouts did prevail last night by a slimmer-than-comfortable margin. Good work, Alley Kats! It's a little nervous-making, though, because our next opponents are the Dollies, who beat the Kats by kind of a lot of points, so if we want to post a winning record we've really got to brush up on our offense. (I actually think our defense was somewhat respectable, but I say that not having watched the footage at all so I don't know that, and may eat those words.)
It was the closest and thus most exciting game all season, I am told. I have no sense of perspective on these things.
I didn't have as much fun as I had been looking forward to having, though. :( In the first jam I was out, I locked wheels or tripped over somebody, and fell properly on the right knee, but the left leg was extended somewhat sideways, so I ended up hyperextending it and tweaking the hell out of some ligament or something as I tried to recover and get back up. So I limped the rest of that whole jam, and my stride was off the entire night-- I like to keep both feet down in the pack, and use a scissor-pull stride to hold the corners really tight. I put my inside (left) foot right on the line and pull in with it-- I'm wicked fast at it. But I couldn't really do that at all. I could cross over, sure-- that's mostly a pushing motion-- but that's just not how I'm used to moving once in position in the pack.
So it was a total bummer, and it hurt, and it made me slower, and made me have to work much harder to maintain my normal pace, it made me way less nimble not that my agility is ever that great, and worse, it made me grumpy. I really didn't want to be grumpy.
I'd go into more analytical type of detail but a) I'm not that smart or mentally-together, and b) no matter how hard I tried to be either objective or obviously subjective and use my me-language and all that, it would be controversial to someone somewhere, so there's really no point. So no, all you get is me whingeing about my knee. It's sad how that works.
I enjoyed the after-party somewhat, but I couldn't dance much. I took some pictures, though, which I don't usually-- Fi loaned me her tiny camera. [livejournal.com profile] stabtacular makes awesome photo faces even when she doesn't know you're taking a picture, which is an achievement unto itself.
Some year I will get the photos off the camera.

So I'm on ibuprofin and ice today, and staying off it. I'm sure it'll be fine-- it hurts much less than last season's patellar tendonitis. Lots of other girls got hurt way worse.
But the baby shower I went to this morning was brutal-- sitting on a low couch and constantly pulling my knees out of the way was agony.
I'm not very sore elsewhere. So either I just keep focusing on my knee, or I didn't work anything like hard enough last night. Which bums me out. :(

Anyway. The baby shower was fun besides the part where I kept tweaking my knee more.

Then I spent hours and hours obsessing over my garden. I've made many maps of my yard where I drew in where I'm planting things, but they never worked out. So instead I made a rough map, numbered the beds, and made a list of the soil amendments and bed preparations I'll have to do. And then I listed the beds and what to plant in each one, based on the bed's conditions and upon a bunch of online companion-planting charts.
I also made a list of all the plants I'm working with, separated into categories of what treatment they need-- start indoors under lights, sprout indoors then plant out, direct-seed before last frost, direct-seed just after last frost, direct-seed when soil is warm.
Then I listed the ones I need to start indoors under lights and what days I need to start them by, and what kind of container I want to start them in.
Seven beds in back and five in front makes it sound like I have a big yard, but really the largest bed is about three feet by ten feet, and most are more like two by five. It's kind of ridiculous. All these square-foot gardener-types working with "tiny yards" have about twice the space I do.

One of these days I might post my notes. Are people at all interested? I guess I can post them for my reference.
