I just wanted to post about this, as I've seen it mentioned a lot by local peeps but don't know if any of y'alls who aren't from around here know this.

So last week a commuter plane with 49 people on it crashed into a house in a suburb of the city where I live, killing the father of the small family that lived there.
It was pretty upsetting. There were no survivors. The mother of the family got out with her kids, but the house was destroyed. Firefighters responding to the scene were unable to approach it because there were 5,000 pounds of fuel onboard the plane when it hit, and the wreckage remained too hot to approach for hours.
They say it was caused by ice on the wings of the plane. It was mostly local people onboard, returning home from business trips.

The Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket the memorial for the crash, the funeral of one of the victims, and the funeral of the pilot.

I don't know why; their reasoning is pretty incoherent. But apparently they believe that funerals are wrong and memorial services worship the dead? That's all that they can, apparently, come up with.

Yeah. Just wanted to mention that.

Ha, only three of them showed up. About 100 counter-protestors, many wearing angel costumes, surrounded them so that the people in the service couldn't see them. And then the counter-protestors had a potluck supper.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Those people picket everything. They had put out that they were going to picket Caylee Anthony's funeral (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/orl-bk-caylee-anthony-memorial-church-020909,0,4163141.story) a couple weeks ago, though I'm not sure that they actually showed up.

3 of them showed up. They were entirely surrounded by about 100 counter-protestors wearing angel wings, who stood silently between them and the service so that no one in the service could see them.

Wow, the WBC has entered the internet age! They now have Fred Phelps YouTube videos, where he rants about how God hates the UK. Quite entertaining!
