From Katy:
Hello all -

Just so you know we're home! We got here around 2pm today, and it feels very good. David remembers that he is a little boy that can crawl, almost walk, and eat! With a little bit of slowdown, of course - we're trying to convince him now that he's a little boy who can sleep, too...

Anyway, a few pictures. The first is day two after surgery, still with chest tube but out of ICU; then day three after the chest tube is out; then, day four right before discharge, and finally day four home. Babies are so resilient!

Enjoy your weekend, everyone. Thank you!

Love,

Katy

& from Dad, who usually spells better than this:
David arrived home yesterday afternoon, and although it took a long while to get him to sleep last night (he acted tired, but wouldn't fall asleep), he got a good night's sleep. I'm amazed how normal he acts for having such major surgery! Occasionally he'll cry, for example, who he coughs, but the rest of the time he crawls, wals plays, almost normally. He's a little more careful in his movements than usual, but he's a pretty happy boy. He doesn't like taking medecine now, but he gets a lot of a lot of different kinds, (blood pressure, pain killers etc.) so I can't say as I blame him. He sees the doctor next week, hopefully many medecines can be discontinued. It's hard on Adam & Katy, but they're glad to be in their own home, and it will get easier from here on in. I go back to Melrose tomorrow.

So hurrah! Baby continues his relentless progress toward toddlerhood-- in low gear, but continues nonetheless. I shall be keeping fingers crossed, now, that nothing happens to prevent him making the long trek to New York for Thanksgiving, which is at my parents' and is the big family holiday this year. I didn't really dare hope for it before because I was too busy hoping the surgery went well, so now I can shift focus.

I've been quoting emails directly and in their entirety throughout because I have such a flair for embroidery that I tend to say things that aren't true, but I believe should be, since it serves the story I'm telling. When I paraphrase I get, uh, inadvertently creative. So I figured it was better to just stick to direct quotes, especially if anyone who reads this (it being on the Internet) is facing the same situation with their baby and wants to know truth.
