I want new skates. I'm having so many problems, with my knees, with my feet, with my stride, with my posture, I can't help but think that new skates would help.
I thought, why not shoot the moon and ask for new skates for Christmas? I figured today, distracted as I am, I should make up my Xmas list.
I toddled on over to sincityskates.com, which aesthetically at least I like the best of the skate shop websites (it's owned and operated by two oldskool flat-track mavens from the early days, what's not to love?), and what should I find, but they have three pairs of "seconds" skates on sale, and one of them happens to be my size?!?!
It's just what I want-- I have modest requirements. Leather boot, since leather's more forgiving and wears longer. Aluminum plate, since my ass is too heavy for nylon and the steel I've got now is too heavy for my ass. Don't care about anything else. I am too clueless to be fussy. (I'd figured that I'd have more concrete preferences by now, but no.)
On clearance, $250. Cosmetic blemishes on boot.
I can't reconstruct that precise package so I do not know quite what it would cost normally, but I had expected for aluminum plates to spend at least $350. Looking around the site, I wasn't seeing anything I could really use for less than $400, which I really can't afford.
Should I buy them before someone else does?
I'm not likely to get a $350 Xmas present anyway.
Of course I can't afford them, but that's why we have credit cards.
And I can't really expect to eke out a whole nother season on the sad old skates I bought 3 years ago. (For, hm, $250... Well, I got three years out of them, it could have been much worse!) The plates are just too heavy and no matter how hard I train, my back hurts and my feet cramp up. And I destroy my knees regularly.
Hmm....
Dilemma. I had planned on NOT making any important decisions today.
edit:

Screw it, I ordered 'em. We'll see. Z's going in today, maybe he'll get paid... They owe him so much dang money, but only pay on completion of the project, and yeah... Phooey.
