bits and bobs

I am trying to make today a Get Things Done day. Yesterday was wasted in transit, so today I had thought I would Work. But it is steamy and sauna-y, raining and steaming and raining and steaming in turns. The tent was nearly dry and I went out and looked it over, decided it needed just about a half-hour more to dry at the bottom, and then immediately it began to rain out of a sunny sky. This settled into a dark thunderstormy downpour, and I got quite wet, as did the tent.
So I went and set up the folding cot I borrowed, to see if it would fit into the tent. It did, though it takes up almost all the available space in there. Strange, given that the tent is so large, but I suppose just because it tapers inward while the cot does not. You couldn't fit two of these cots in there, despite it being too large a tent for a single person. The cot is easy to set up, though.
I also finally got around to sewing the last few seams and finishing the front opening of the first garb I ever made, that red kirtle. Now it needs some kind of fastening. I am sorely tempted to put buttons on it, but it is better to make it lace like everything else. Given that it's all machine-sewn, and not very well, there's no point in hand-binding endless eyelets. So I will probably use the eyelet tape I bought on a whim at JoAnn's many moons ago, and sew it inside the opening so it won't show, and so perhaps it will look like there are concealed lacing rings back there. The lacing will have to look decorative.
I then decided, while I was finishing things, I'd put the skirt of the blue kirtle onto a waistband. So I went and ironed it, and pressed the seams flat, and got the waistband ironed. I got back upstairs with it, and realized... I'd sewn one seam on one side of the fabric, and the other on the other side. So there was no right-side out part of the skirt. What a complete idiot I am, the more so because I double- and triple-checked that very thing.
I am not feeling terribly competent today.
I just can't quite catch my breath or remember what i was doing from one moment to the next. The weather is just horrible, or perhaps it's just my mental state? I've gotten lots of little things done today, and some big-ish things-- I racked the mead I had been letting sit in its secondary fermentation, transferred everything ready-to-drink up to the upstairs fridge, and started two more big batches of two different kinds of mead, this time with local raw buckwheat honey. But I feel useless, stupid and slow today, which is irritating. I hate my body, but I know it's just because I'm uncomfortable in this humidity.
I was going to meet some of my teammates tonight to get some exercising done, but it is so horribly humid that I expect it'll be more torture than fun. Which is a bummer. I don't really feel like torturing myself. But if I don't, I won't get any exercise this week.
This still didn't turn out to be the big useful intelligent entry I keep thinking I'm going to make. It's very annoying how incompetent I'm proving to be today. If only I could write the day off and just go lie down, but I can't.
Bah.
