It really, really, really sucks to cough until you throw up a little in your mouth, when you have a cracked/bruised/something'd rib.
That's really my only observation.

I should probably also record, however, that I was feeling un-achy enough to get out and clear one of the front garden beds out and plant peas, spinach, and radishes. And a little lettuce. It won't be enough, but it's a start. I plan on expanding that bed anyway, I think.
The other big bed in front I started working on, but it's just so icky and weedy. Also the soil is terrible-- all clay, and it packs down hard and cracks. It's April, it rained today, and that bed has cracks in it. So I've got to do something-- some kind of soil amelioration. I'm considering sheet composting, or something. I have tons of unfinished compost.

Oh shoot, I meant to ask [livejournal.com profile] heebiejeebie about that compost tumbler she had that wasn't in use. Note to self: do that sometime when it's not, er, midnight.

I'm running very late on the garden. It is nearly time to set out plants, but I have no plants to set out; I haven't had time. Insane.
Time is going to only get tighter: Z met with the dude he's working for, and they have more projects for him. They offered to hire him, but Z, rather sensibly I thought, pointed out that if he's going to be expected to work 50 hours a week for the next two months, he'd really rather do it from home, because he can save on the commute, have better coffee, wear his pyjamas if he likes, take shower breaks, and most importantly, be fed by me. But that means that what little help he's been giving me around the house is going to go away. But, on the other hand, he's been promised "two boatloads" of money, so I suppose that's good.

Went to Open Skate tonight. Spoke at length with a leaguemate I haven't spent nearly enough time with. I spent much of today on various derby messageboards, learning about WFTDA and national/international derby politics. After skating tonight, I'm feeling a little tiny bit less burned out... and a little tiny bit more interested in trying out for our travel team. Not to skate for glory or whatever, but because... I miss some of my leaguemates. I haven't gotten to skate with certain girls in a very long time, and I would love to compete alongside them. I just... it's weird when I see them all the time, but really, I do miss some of them.

Yay for the two boatloads of money. I'm trying to decide if "two" is better than the more common "boatloads." The plural form implies "two or more" whereas specifying two leaves one with the impression that the other boatloads have been withheld. Yet again, the image of more than one boat full of money -- or even one boat, alone -- is to imagine an awful lot of money. But what if the boat was filled with pennies? Would you really want two loads in that case?

When I first came to stay in Z's apartment he had to commute through the New Jersey toll roads-- meaning that he always had to have quarters, nickels and dimes handy to pitch into the baskets to let him onto the highway.
Which meant, of course, that he always had zillions of pennies left over.
When I moved in he had a big plastic cup full of pennies. It had overflowed. He'd gotten a saucepan. I'm not kidding. A saucepan, and had used it as the overflow container. It was full too.
Well, I was poor. So I sat there one day, with a bunch of penny rolls that I'd gotten for free from a bank. And I sat there and rolled up those pennies.

$14.50.

Then I moved twice, with the pennies in rolls. Yup. But the point is, pennies are money, you just have to work harder for it. I later opened a bank account with $25 in rolled change (mostly those pennies) and $100 in tip money.
