I wish I understood how to use something like 8tracks, but– I signed up, months ago, wanting to make a playlist to go along with The Night Has Seen Your Mind. There was so much music in that fic! And I wanted to put it into a playlist.
But 8tracks didn’t have most of the songs I needed, and I don’t own them, mostly. I did so much research, basically nothing in that fic was music I owned, because I basically discovered popular music along with Bucky in that story. I have had a strange relationship with popular culture my whole life, okay? I grew up on a pretty steady diet of 18th-century novellas and public radio, to paraphrase a comic strip I only vaguely remember.
Anyway. I use Google Play, I subscribe to it, because with several people the $15/mo subscription isn’t unreasonable and I hate Spotify ads and cannot fucking stand Pandora. (It thinks women are a separate category from men; the only station I ever made on there that didn’t turn into Dudes Angsting was one that started with Sleater-Kinney and that I aggressively thumbs-downed any man that showed up.)
So. If you can see Google Play playlists, let me know. I have one for NHSYM, one for its sequel, and I’ve started one for all the music I’m slightly-fictionalizing to be in the Star Wars thing.
Otherwise… I guess I could post links to YouTube videos, almost everything I’d need is on YouTube.
A lot of the songs I like, though, I hate every recording I can find, I just know the song would be perfect if only it were being sung by a sweetly-soulful untrained tenor with an acoustic guitar.
Should I do a series of posts on the shit Poe’s going to be singing in this upcoming novel? Because I sort of want to and sort of am fucking terrible at that kind of thing. Too late, I’m collecting a playlist.
