Today I got out of bed, shed the clothes I've been wearing since Wednesday morning (ugh! I know), brushed my hair, took a shower (it was glorious), and went to the nearest in-network urgent care facility. See, in order to report back to work after a three-day absence, I need a doctor's note. My doctor is out of town, and there's no one in his practice to take care of patients while he's out.
Fortunately my co-pay is the same for primary or urgent care, much thanks to the lady on the phone from the insurance company who pointed that out. So I just went to the walk-in place nearest to my house and sat there for about 45 minutes.
The nurse practitioner who saw me was quite nice and sympathetic and very open in discussing her thoughts on my particular condition. She did say she was seeing a lot of these things, whatever bug I had-- perhaps flu, perhaps just a nasty infection, but it was slightly different in everyone. She was concerned because I initially presented symptoms as early as 7 days ago, and a viral infection should be just about played out by now, but I still had a fever of over 100.
So she diagnosed it as an upper respiratory infection, double-checked my ears for me since I was concerned that all this sinus pressure was going to give me an ear infection (there's some swelling, she said, but not an undue amount), and prescribed me an antibiotic with the caveat that I should not fill it unless I did not feel better in a day or so, and if I did fill it, I would have to take the whole course. She explained that a viral infection shouldn't last longer than 7-10 days, so if it was still stubbornly hanging on it might be bacterial.
Shrug. Weird.
I'm pretty miserable still, but I left the house today. When she asked if I thought I was improving, I said, Eh, I'm pretty sick, but yesterday I didn't eat because I couldn't get all that way to the kitchen. Today I've had a shower, clean clothes, *and* a meal. So I'm doing pretty good.

Z was pretty pleased to have an excuse to take off work, to take me to the doctor. He's been having a rough week there; I guess a rumor is going around that he's quitting, so everyone's being odd, and he's really tired of it all. He's been there a long time. I wish I could tell him not to worry, to go ahead and quit and we'll be fine, but we have to get to London and to Georgia and money's going to be tight with all of that. Sigh. I don't like being that person.
But it was kind of sweet to get a text from his boss: "You coming back soon?"
and be able to answer "No, I'm in the urgent care waiting room and don't know how long it will be," and have it be completely true.
