Oh, I forgot, the whole thing I was going to blog:
It's my name day!
My family never celebrated namedays, but I guess Latvians do, so Z's family always did. You just get a little present or dinner out or something, not a big deal. But it's traditional.
It's St. Bridget's day, so it's my nameday.
Z doesn't celebrate the day of his first name-- it's too close to his birthday, which is on New Year's Eve so it's too close to Christmas as it is. He celebrates St. Peter's day, for his middle name and for the grandfather he was named for-- it's some time in the middle of the summer, and an opportunity for a little boy with a holiday birthday to not get gypped.
In high school we often celebrated half-birthdays, especially for those of us whose birthdays fell in the summer and so never got to have parties at school. Feb 1 isn't my half-birthday, but it's close.
So I've always meant to celebrate my nameday, but never have. Maybe I will tonight.
If ever the ice stops falling.
