Today at work we had no Internet and the phones were intermittent.
At 4:30 the owner called down and said everyone should go home, given the weather.
(Ridiculous hard winds had taken down parts of the power grid, shut down many of the roads, and forced Lake Erie partially out of its bed in a "Slosh" that has inundated many lower-lying areas of the city with slushy lake water.)
I struggled down to Z's office... where the issue is late, so Z can't leave, so we're sitting here.
"Hey," says Z's coworker, "are you guys in [neighborhood]?"
"Yes... why?"
"Power's out up there."
"Greaaaat."
So if this is my only entry today, you know why.
Coworker helpfully dialed a restaurant a few blocks away from us and asked if they'd be open tonight. They said they planned to be, in about half an hour. "Is your power on?" she asked.
"Yes," the hostess answered.
"Thanks!" She hangs up the phone. "Dunno! Maybe you guys are good."
:/
I've got a flashlight in my purse and I can use it to locate all the candles, so we should be good-- we have gas heat.
Still, with no power, there's still no Internet, and that means I'm in trouble because much of my latest draft of Novel is on Google Docs. Maddening, isn't it?
Whatever-- I spent the day making extensive notes about the garden on pieces of scrap paper. I should probably go do some of the prep work...
