random observation
Jan. 25th, 2008 10:50 amI have a cousin who is pretty much exactly my age. He works on a ship. So when I glance over at his name in my Gmail contact list, when he has status messages that say things like, "Gulf of Mexico", "Oslo", "Tasmania", etc., they're not some weird metaphor. They're literally just giving his location.
It's kind of weird to think of.
And it makes my status messages ("here", "not here", "around somewhere", "lunch!") look exceptionally lame.
I console myself by thinking that his job is apparently even more boring than mine except, you know, during heavy weather, or when he's not actually sitting at his computer, or when he's narrowly escaping pirates, or whatever. You know. But the actual job part, that's kind of boring. Sometimes.
Like mine.
Which is not in Tasmania.
Hmph.
(I've never even crossed the Equator!!! How lame am I???)
