shameless pimping
Jan. 24th, 2008 10:25 amI am my own pimp.
Anyway.
I keep forgetting to post this.
Remember how I mentioned I was going to be appearing in a pinup calendar?
I am. I'm in a group shot for August. It's the 2008 Queen City Roller Girls Pinup Calendar.
It's available online. QCRG.net: you can either go to the main page and it's a banner splashed near the top ("2008 Calendars!") or here is the direct link to the order form, but it's not a very compelling page. (But you can also buy tickets!)
There aren't preview images. Bummer. I linked to a few back when I was in the photo shoot.
But there are 11 other months, with other awesome girls in different themes. It's organized rather simply: Any 2007 season member interested in being on a calendar page signed up for the photo shoot for the month in which she was born.
The April girls are Playboy bunnies in corsets and ears (and skates).
The June girls are 20s-era damsels in distress tied to the tracks by villains. (Also in skates.)
September features a real-live pinup model who also happens to skate for the Saucies. (She is posed in skates.)
...
The October girls dressed as zombies. Yeah. Also in skates.
Noticing a theme?
Anyhow, we still have a bunch of these left and you still have eleven months to enjoy them. So if you're interested, clicky clicky. It's $11, and $1 goes straight off the top to a local charity.
So I'm shamelessly pimping them online.

Date: 2008-01-24 04:47 pm (UTC)So the announcers don't cuss, the music is just good old rock-n-roll, the halftime shows are rock bands but not hardcore ones. It's a *little* racy-- it's girls in short skirts, fishnets, some garter belts-- but there's no indecent exposure and it's all in fun, not for shock, and way tamer than even prime-time TV can be.
We even offer reduced-price tickets for kids-- I believe it is $5 for an under-12 ticket. At the moment we do not sell the kids' tickets at pre-sale-- you have to get them at the door.
The reason for this?
In order to purchase the reduced price ticket we make you sign a waiver stating that you won't let your kid run around.
We HAVE to keep kids out of the front row (we crash sometimes; a full-grown woman falling on a full-grown healthy adult's lap is no big deal, but if she lands on a child, or a very old person, or a pregnant woman, etc. etc. etc.), and it is CRUCIAL that all children be kept in seats and not out on the track. There is a huge possibility of injury if unsupervised children run out onto the track, even during period breaks as sometimes skaters are warming up-- so we are EXTREMELY strict about children remaining under their parents' control at all times.
So we're considering making a special kids-only section in the bleachers, to make sure that kids have a good view but are out of the way-- that's still in the works.
But we're totally thrilled for people to bring their kids, as long as there are enough adults to adequately supervise them. We're not just being snippy-- there was an incident last year where a man left his 4-year-old unsupervised [he was outside smoking!!!] and the kid ran out on the track and someone nearly killed herself trying to avoid running him over, and the kid got hurt anyway. So we're once bitten on this one. Again, lots of us are moms, so we're totally behind the idea!! And it's completely safe as long as the kids are under control.
So we'd love to have you, in short.
