I have chapped lips. I'm trying to drink water to heal them.

I am in bed. Chita is tearing around the house on a formidable crack binge. She was behind the headboard. I leaned over to see what she was doing. She leapt up and raked her claws down my lower lip.

I look like Scully over here. Good thing I trimmed Chita's claws so they're not at full sharpness. But this freakin' hurts.

No blood. I suppose I can't call in cat-scratched to work, so I might as well get over it....

One of my collies was Prince, who had arthritis pretty badly by the time he was 10. One night I was petting him while he was lying on the floor. I went to kiss him on the head, as I had done hundreds of millions of times. He chose that moment to try to get to his feet. Because of his lameness he threw himself forward, hitting my lower lip with his incredibly hard skull. He split my lip. It was a gusher. I was torn. Well, both emotionally and physically. Should I go to the ER, wait around for hours, have some kid doing his ER stint stitch me up? Or should I just put ice on it and refuse to speak or eat for the next 24 hours?

The second option won out.
