dragonlady7: self-portrait but it's mostly the DSLR in my hands in the mirror (rain rain)

Someone who knows me but not super-well gave me a CD of New Age Celtic music for Christmas. Now, this isn't a genre I despise, at all; it's close enough to what I like that I'm always getting recommendations for it on Amazon. So it was a pretty solid gift. And I'm listening to it and enjoying it well enough. But I have one peeve I've just got to get off my chest.
The fucking sound-effects.

I like jigs and reels and strathspeys and ballads and slow waltzes and hornpipes and lullabies and all of that. I even like them with guitars and sometimes synthesizers if they're done well and all that stuff. I can overlook a great many things that purists would frown upon, provided it's a good melody and well-arranged.
But the god-damned sound effects drive me nuts.

Why do I need to hear water sloshing around in a can? Is it supposed to be the sea? It makes me have to pee. And every fucking ballad has this noise, like it's supposed to be the ocean. Or the wind. Sometimes it's the wind. The worst is when it's supposed to be the rain. Shut the fuck up.
This last one? They just had the noise of bubbles. Like, bubbles coming up through water. What the heck? It was called "Yellow Lilly" and had bubbles in it.
Why?
I don't know. Lily pads? Stagnant ponds? What am I supposed to think about?

This one is a sentimental piano version of "The Rose of Tralee/Danny Boy". Which is, you know, what it is. Nothing wrong with Tin Pan Alley Irish, in its place, and I don't mind. I do a killer version of Danny Boy myself, but only when the listeners are drunk. (I'm also working on Kathleen Mavourneen, because it also is ridiculous and necessary to one's repertoire.)
But they really, really, really, and I can't say "really" often enough here so I'll give up, did not need to put fifteen seconds of "ocean" at the front of that.
It's not even a sea ballad.

So, if any producers of New-Age Celtic music are listening, please, please please, stop with the stupid, stupid bloody sound effects.

In other news I have begun bribing Chita with treats to get her to sit next to me. It seems to be working so far. I know it's sad, but she'd been being really aloof and I can't think of any better way to remind her that I am awesome. So, I'll make her fat. Fun!
