  • I don't remember the final score. We won by like three points or something. I think it was 109 to 106. I don't remember. It was so close that V.A.G. and Shake-Kira and I sat on the bench for the entire official time-out preceding the last jam, and the last jam itself, with our arms linked basically crying because we couldn't take the suspense.
  • It was a fucking awesome game. We spent the first 20 minute period in the penalty box and skating short because we weren't used to our bench manager and didn't get our full lineups out on the track in time, so we were down by 10-12 points at the end of that period. In the second period, we got our shit together and brought it to a tie. From then on the score remained within 10-- hell, within 5-- points at all times. It was nailbiting. I think we pulled ahead by like four and mostly kept it around that range, but it was really god damned close. It was some amazing derby. And some awesome opponents.
  • At one point we had only two blockers and a jammer out on the floor, and the two blockers ganged up and kept the opposing jammer from breaking the pack even once. It was brutal but effective. We may foul a lot, but we kill penalties well. You can write that down, Saucies. We'll see you in March with our bag of tricks. ;)
  • WE SOLD OUT THE VENUE. First we sold out of all the tickets we'd printed, and then they started writing "ADMIT ONE" on the backs of gameroom tickets and the like. I still don't know for sure what the final total was, especially in relation to the fire code capacity of the place, and I don't know what our criteria for "selling out" is set at, but we sold every single ticket in the place, and handed out every one of the 600 handbills we'd printed to promote next month's bout.
  • Channel 2 sent a camera crew. The footage aired during our afterparty-- I caught the tail end of it on the way out of the after party. (I left early because I was starving. Make a note that we need to negotiate with the diner down the street to remain open on bout nights.)
  • This means two things.
  • 1) Since my team didn't lose and also skated me in a decent number of line-ups, that means I am not a complete fuck-up as a skater.
  • 2) Since we sold out the venue, whatever I may have screwed up as head of the PR Committee is unimportant; obviously I can't be a complete and total fuck-up in that respect either.

Of course, THIS would have to be the bout I miss! It sounds amazing, and I can't wait for the footage. And, WOWWWWW!! A TV crew covered it as sports? (I know I'm being optimistic, but they came to a bout, not a practice!!) And we sold out?

You guys sounded like you played with more heart than ever - and the Knockouts have always had a ton of heart! Enjoy your month "off". It'll be fun to go up against you guys again in March.

I'm really glad you won!!!

I missed it too -- but am already making plans to come to the next one. It sounds like it was awesome!
