My knee still hurts. I have been icing it on and off for 6 days, taking ibuprofin at least once a day if I think of it, keeping it elevated whenever I can. It feels tight and sore and I cannot bend it more than 90 degrees, still, and it is skittish about being straightened either. Standing on it is fine except that I am constantly worried about hyperextending it, as that hurts a lot-- I think that's happened about twice, that I've straightened my knee too far and had it hurt sharply. It doesn't hurt all the time, but it bothers me all the time, to the point that I got out of bed at 2 am last night, still drunk, to put some ice on it.
I'm trying to be patient. If it's just a bruise, it will get better when the swelling goes away. it doesn't look swollen, though.
I probably shouldn't have skated on Wednesday at open skate, though it felt pretty good while I was actually skating. I tried one (1) jammer start, running on my toestops, and went two strides and said, rather firmly, No, I will not do that again. I could duck-walk a pretty good start, though.
I skated most of Thursday's practice but started to feel sore towards the end, so I didn't scrimmage. But what really, really hurt, and has continued to hurt, was that I went to the bar afterward and stood around for over an hour. That was a huge mistake. It was bothering me, but I was in the midst of a conversation about roller derby business, and I had to finish setting up a meeting, etc., so I was standing there holding my empty glass with ice in it against my leg. Stupid.
But it's really bothering me. I tried elevating it with pillows so it was above my heart, but that didn't help much-- I think that's really only for badly-bleeding wounds...
Going Christmas shopping this morning wasn't terribly helpful either.
Bah, humbug. If I don't get to skate in our season opener because I tripped and fell at our fucking Christmas party I may have to disembowel someone with my teeth.
