So tonight we had a meeting of the roller derby league's committee heads. It was the first one-- most of us were just confirmed in our positions last month or so.
I've been amusing Z all week by referring to this meeting as the Committee Committee Meeting.
Last year I was a member of the Ad-Hoc Promotions And Production Committee. It consisted of the rink owner, the league founder, a team captain, a random dude who pretty much wound up running our bouts, me, and Z, because, well, we were there. So I did PR last year, somewhat haphazardly.
So this year I said I'd do it again.
Only this year, we're Organized.
So it turns out... uh, I'm in charge of, like, everything.
Yeah.
My goal is to actually myself do as little as possible, and mostly just coordinate.
Heh, we'll see how that works out.
Anyhow.

1) Establish a league corporate identity. Coordinate the website, ensure consistent use of the logos, establish "identity" colors. Get business cards designed and printed for all committee heads, team captains, and others who may need them (sponsorship committee members, volunteer committee members in coordinating positions, girls who have acted as important ambassadors even if in informal roles). Get letterhead, envelopes, etc. As our website was just redesigned, I can probably crib most of the "look" from that. Must enlist the help of the many girls with graphic design experience and expertise, as my brief career in webdesign assures me that I have the graphic design talents of a brick-veneer wall. (Imitation, not even real brick.)

2) Get a schedule of all events taking place this year, starting with bouts, then official events (parties we're hosting), then official appearances (volunteer or publicity-related). Compile a calendar of this somewhere. 2a) Discover the publishing deadlines for all the local news outlets, find the corresponding dates surrounding the events, and set internal deadlines for submitting materials to each outlet.

3) Recruit committee members. Ask for specific things. Collate girls who have already volunteered, and what contacts they claim to have. Collect all contacts somewhere centrally-- attempt to have at least one RELEVANT contact at each major news organization.

4) Have first meeting SOON and start to get a feel for which committee members will be interested in / useful for what tasks. DELEGATE THE SHIT OUT OF EVERYTHING.

I got a lot to do. Let's see how I do.

Do you read Rockets' MySpace blog? Because if not, you should definitely mosey on over there like now. Trust me.

I got a notification that she'd updated but I haven't gone there yet-- I get Myspace notifications and generally follow up on them once a day or so. I assume, then, that it's relevant? Sweet.

The woman has been through three cars in the two years I've known her. However, the others exploded more on their own volition.

Usually when I type LOL I'm just being metaphorical.

OH MY GOD.
It's only funny because nobody's dead.
But it's funny.
And oh god.
That's horrible.
Maybe we should take up a collection. FOR RECORD-BREAKING, DEATH-DEFYING AWESOME!
If one is going to destroy a car, that's probably the most interesting/thorough way to do it...
