Still no Internet at home. It's kind of making me post weird things here. Sorry.
Thing 1) I am wearing a pair of thigh-highs. They are so cute. I have a long skirt on, as well. And I love them.
But only one of them fits. My left thigh is too big. Apparently that's the one that I use more for roller derby-- logical, as that's the inside leg, which holds my weight most, while the outside pushes more. I've never actually noticed how asymmetric my legs are before, but the right thigh-high goes all the way up to the dent at the top of my thigh, and the left one strains around the thick part just before the dent, and won't stay up. It wants to roll right down to my knee.

Thing 2) There's a concert we want to go to tonight. We haven't gone to a concert in so long we sort of don't know how to proceed. OMG. Craziness.

Thing 3) I love rainy days. There have been so few this summer. The lawns are all dead. But I got in early this morning, and no one was here, so the lights were off. I came to my desk and turned on the little under-shelf fluorescent, and watched the rain roll down the huge west-facing windows, and drank some coffee and thought about stuff. But then everyone else arrived and turned the lights on. Why do I love dark rainy days so much? I don't know.
I woke this morning when the rain began to patter on the roof, around 5:30, remembering that I'd left Z's comforter airing outside overnight after yet another episode of territorial urination by Chita. (My working theory is that she chooses his bed because it smells more strongly than mine-- I don't think it's vanity for me to say that I give off significantly less body odor than he does, and thus my bed doesn't smell like much, but his does. She only peed in my bed once, while very upset and also, locked in that room.)
My running around woke Z, who came to see what was going on. Then he had a coughing fit and was awake until 6:30. I lay in bed glorying in the fact that I had time to lie there. I love waking early if I don't have to get up. And I love listening to the rain on the roof.

Thing 4) I am wearing a compression sports bra and a man's undershirt, because I wanted to wear a white button-down shirt but somehow, don't own one that actually fastens over my breasts.
So I am squashed into my Enell sports bra, just so I can wear a shirt.
It's more comfortable than you'd think. It's like having a break from the crazy boobs. They're down to being probably DDDs now, and it's a different kind of look for me.
Makes my waist look chunky, though. Oh well.

I wish I knew why Chita was doing that. But I can offer no advice. My apologies.

My working theory is that she's doing it out of some strange sense of conflict with Z, or with his "den"-- his room is quite messy. She threw up in there earlier, too.
[The realization has suddenly stricken me that this morning around 5:30 I heard her throwing up and yet I never found the spot, so there's puke somewhere in my house. Great!]

I think that once we transform his bedroom into an office, and remove that bed, she won't do it anymore. I mean, simple, right?
We also got some special kitty litter that's supposed to be nicer and make even problem litterbox-not-users want to use their litterbox. That was the vet's recommendation.

We'll be starting over with a new bed, in my room where she's only peed the one time. I am going to attempt to keep very current on the washing, so that the bed never takes on that much of an odor. (Z's bed/room smells a bit like him-- it's not bad, but he is a boy, and they smell more than girls, and his dirty laundry piles up a bit, and there's an odor that's slightly perceptible to humans-- so cats' much more sensitive noses must be more aware of it.)
But, as a bonus, the mattress guy upsold me this fancy mattress pad thing that's meant to be water/stainproof, absolutely guaranteed. So there's that as a kind of backup. :)

Z's far more upset than me, understandably, but you know, we needed a new down comforter anyway, for the new bed. So we'll see how it goes. I don't think this problem will persist.

I have also heard that kittens need a litterbox on every floor of their house, so maybe having one in the basement isn't enough?

She went for 4 weeks without incident, including when we moved the litter box abruptly from the upstairs to the downstairs. She's been trapped in rooms for hours without incident.
It's only when we deliberately shut her in a bedroom that she did this. And the first time she did it, she did it directly on Z. He was in the bed, and she peed on him.
So it seems to me that it's a territorial or aggressive thing.

We had a female kitten in college that did something similar. She'd do it infrequently, but she'd go through streaks where she did it more. She stopped entirely once she was mostly grown-up. So I guess she grew out of it. I'm hoping that growing up and changing the furnishings will help too.
