I need more usericons. I remembered LJ having an icon maker, but I don't see it now. Hm.

I'm not sick, knocking wood, but I probably will be soonish-- Z is still coughing horribly, but slowly getting over his Cold Of Doom. I expect its arrival in my sinuses imminently.

No, the one who is sick is poor Chita, though I suspect she's largely over it now. We took her to the vet on Friday for two booster shots, and they looked at her and said, "She's big enough to get spayed now!"
I had been sure they'd told me to get her spayed when she was "five or six months old", but she's just 17 weeks now, which is right around 4 months.
But they also said, "She needs her feline lukemia vaccine before she gets spayed," which they'd previously said she didn't need, so we had to get that one too. It needs a booster, so we scheduled the booster as late as possible and will have her surgery done the same visit.

She's 4.5 pounds and still exceptionally cute, the vet assured us. At one point she decided she was done, so she hopped down from the examination table to get into Z's lap. The vet stood there a moment while Z absently petted her, and then Z said, "Oh, should I put her back?"
"I think he's seen the table before," I said, "and it's likely he does need the kitten back."

Poor girl ended up getting three big shots, and Friday night and all day Saturday she just wasn't really interested in playing. I put the step ladder beside the fish tank and she climbed slowly up to sit, tail curled around paws, hunkered down, and watch forlornly in case the fish moved. Z and I were measuring rooms for furniture, and she was interested in the tape measure, but wouldn't play with it really. So I crinkled a ball of paper and she batted it twice before coming to sit next to me. I found one of her toy mousies and got her to chase it for precisely 30 seconds before she gave up on it. So we spent most of the day with her curled up sleeping in the room we were in, wherever we went.
Then we went out in the evening, and had a blast with some childhood friends of Z's-- a couple with a new house out in a southeastern suburb of Buffalo, one of those ones that you're mentally like, "oh that's not so far," and you get directions and you're like, "pshh, twenty minutes easy" (everything in Buffalo is a "20-15-minute drive") and then you actually drive there and you're like, Man, we're still on this road? When the hell do we turn? Holy shit we've been driving half an hour already, aren't we there yet?
It's not that far, but it's just farther than you think.
Also at the party were several other of their friends, including a stealth Republican and his wife and two ridiculously adorable kids, another childhood friend of Z's (well, a high school buddy) and his wife, and a couple who are friends from the new neighborhood. This couple both take Mia Mauler's yoga class, so we discussed that a bit. I'm probably going to take it, and I'm trying to get these friends of ours to take it too, so I'm glad to have them on our side.
Anyway, we got home fairly late, and Chita was still subdued but happy to see us. Of course once we'd turned the lights out, Chita was hyper and running around the place. She got up on top of the fishtank and I didn't stop her, but came to watch, to make sure she didn't fall in. Pleco had the sense to just not move. Well, that's sort of what he always does.
(I got him out of the orange bucket, btw, and into his real tank. I wanted to get a photo of how orange he was but he changed color immediately and you could only make out traces of the orange if you knew what he looked like already. So sad. I might try to get a good picture of him anyway just for reference... He's a gorgeously ugly fish.)

So Chita seems fine this morning. It was sort of nice, having her be so mellow and sleepy, except that I knew it wasn't right and it made us both worried and nervous.

Today we're going to push our luck by abandoning her again and going up to Ikea. We rented a van from Uhaul-- Progressive has unlimited mileage but costs more per day, and it was going to be cheaper to get a van from them, except that they're closed every Sunday and for all holidays, so they insisted we get a three-day rental. Uhaul's happy to just give us a 12-hour rental. So we'll pay their per-mile fee-- it would still be cheaper even if they insisted on a 3-day rental too.
I'm going to buy a king-size mattress. We laid out the room on graph paper (how lame are we: we made graph paper in Adobe Illustrator because I have a pad of it and couldn't find it) and a king-size bed pretty much fills the room, but there's room for just enough furniture that the room would be really comfy, and we're not going to delude ourselves that we're tidy people who put our clothes away properly, so we won't bother with a dresser.
We're also looking at about $2000 worth of stuff. I expect, given a rental moving vehicle and the fact that it's a bi-national federal holiday, that we will have a tremendously long wait at the border and also we will be totally hassled there. It's ok, I have a valid passport and Z was born locally; we'll get through somehow. Though I will be sure to wear cute undies in case I'm strip-searched.

I can make you some icons if you like? I feel the need to make icons, but can't think what of, so it would be very convenient timing :)

Oh, mostly I need to finally get off my hind end and make roller derby icons, and Chita icons-- that's what I was referring to-- but I have like 20 empty slots and I need icons in general.

I hope the ambition plan worked out well.

To use LJ to make your icon, just upload the picture you want to use from 'manage/user pics'. If it's too big, it will automatically default to the editing page.
