kitty update
Aug. 10th, 2007 08:44 amChita had a vaccination booster shot today. They weighed her and said Holy cow, she's gone from 2.5 pounds to 3.75 in 3 weeks. I knew she was growing fast. When she jumps on me on the bed, I notice now.
I still roll over and squash her a lot. She seems not to mind much. The last two nights she's lain in such a position that I'm trapped against the wall and the rest of the double bed is empty. Finally this morning I had the brainwave to pick her up and move her. Duh. She didn't even care-- she just rolled over and insisted on a belly scritchie.
She's been behaving really well too. She gets all cracked-out and jumps on things and claws, but she's stopped clawing people-- I've consistently yelled OW every time she hurt me, and so she doesn't stick her claws out all the way anymore, but bats at me with her claws mostly retracted. The only trouble I still have is that thumb claw-- the fifth claw doesn't retract as fully as the others, so she still snags skin with it once in a while. And, of course, if she's running or falling, all bets are off. I have some good scratches from that sort of thing.
She still tries to climb the screens out on the porch. If I yell NO at her, she hesitates, and if I make as if to stand up and come over there, she jumps down and gets into the red chair and curls up all sad and innocent-looking. If she doesn't jump down in time and I grab her and chuck her at the chair myself, she hides under it and is sad for .2 seconds, but she will steer away from the screens in future.
I haven't really got any hope that she'll ever behave that well, but she behaves better, and that's important. Co-workers were surprised that I'd managed to train her to do anything, as cats never pay enough attention to be trained-- but as she's an only pet, she has no other playmates, so she has much more motivation to pay attention. For whatever that's worth, good or bad. I still feel like two cats would get into more trouble and make more of a mess. I do think that Chita's both nice and chill enough that we could introduce another cat at a future date, if we really wanted, but I don't think it's necessary.
I'm toying with the idea of going away this weekend, just because we could, but I don't know where, and I don't actually want to leave Chita alone. Dunno man.
I know, I'm super boring. I need to be organized enough to upload photos and stuff. Oh hang on, I might have one.

Taken in bed yesterday morning when she was being particularly cute.
