Tonight’s vindication:
was randomly browsing wookieepedia (i clicked through something, I didn’t just go there, but once I was there I just kind of got sucked in, like you do) and found the Aurebesh alphabet.
And at one point in the novel I make Poe do a “finger quotes” gesture, and I described it as making the Aurebesh quotation symbol with his fingers, and I was like, fuck, I’m gonna have to Google that later, and I forgot to. But I found the set that has quotes in it and
fuck yeah you can totally make those little Vs with your fingers
so finger quotes as an annoying and twee but effective gesture are totally go in the Star Wars universe, you can all rest easy now.
(I was worried they were gonna be some complicated wiggly shit or other, but no, whoever designed this was clearly not super imaginative and had nothing on the many many conlang geeks I know who probably hate this with the fire of a thousand suns.)
