apropos of nothing
Apr. 3rd, 2007 10:13 amThis is about the cutest photo ever. It's right in the middle of a photostream of pictures taken at the bout, too, so if you want some more derby pics, scroll around. Those were taken by the family of one of the Saucies, Alley Oops, so a lot of them are of her, but there are a couple good action shots of me that, actually, now I look at it, do say a lot about what was going on with the Knockouts' pack formations.
I made a valiant effort to sleep in this morning. I awoke at quarter to eight, but I refused to get out of bed. I was cold, and groggy, and didn't feel like getting up. So I tossed and turned and bundled myself into a ball, and didn't get up until nearly ten am. Which is the latest I've slept in in about a year, so... Not that I was actually ever asleep, but, well, we can't do everything perfectly.
I went to yoga class last night-- my team captain teaches yoga at Community Ed, and said she wouldn't mind at all if I showed up with Z. So I bought some yoga mats at Wal-Mart-- I don't ever shop there, but work gave us all $20 Wal-Mart giftcards as our Christmas bonus [it's better than the $5 Tops cards and a cute Santa pencil last year] and so two mats wound up costing me $0.27. Which I suppose counts as a bargain, no?
If nothing else, I can now at least do sit-ups on the mat. I had been trying to do them every day, but it hurt my back/tailbone too much, back when I was having all those weird sciatic nerve issues-- it sent everything pinging, which sucked. So now I don't have an excuse anymore. Hey, bikini season is coming.
Ohh... Yawn. Going to be a long day. I've had so many days off work I'm kind of getting used to it. I don't really want to go back. Pah. Oh well. I'm broke, so I have to. Last night I had to use my credit card to pay for an ice cream cone. Yes. It was pretty sad. So...
Back to the salt mines.

We're also still torn on everyone wearing the same socks or not. The Saucies just bought a huge batch of black socks with flames on them and handed them out to every team member. We've all just gone shopping ourselves and looked around for what we could find.
Eh, the uniforms have taken up so much energy and time and concern and consideration... On the one hand it'd be nice to be continually improving them, but on the other hand I just want to stop worrying about it.

Date: 2007-04-04 03:31 am (UTC)Partly it's the punk aesthetic, I think, but partly, I think other leagues just take their uniforms a lot less seriously than we have been.

Date: 2007-04-04 03:35 am (UTC)I do wonder, though, about how far unbuttoned you guys wear them-- don't you wind up tugging at them all the time? I've just never had anything button-down that fit me in the slightest, and I just have so strong an association with feeling icky and having to readjust constantly-- obviously I got my own issues with that, though.
I think the fashion statement is made more collectively than individually, with those colors and the uniformity of it. Even though the Knockouts were all wearing exactly the same outfit, we didn't look as uniform as the Saucies, because the colors were softer. (It is too bad we couldn't get anything royal blue-- powder blue just isn't as badass. Shh, don't tell Mia I said that. But heck, she wanted purple anyway.)
All together we kinda looked like an American flag, though, which was pretty funny. We should've posed like that. Maybe we can get the Dollies in their white shirts.

Date: 2007-04-04 03:29 am (UTC)We've already got all those screens made for the uniforms, so all we need is to get a budget and we're golden. But the other two teams might whine if we get such a jump on them. So I don't know how long it'll be until there's NCKO merch, but I'm really gonna push to sell it online once we get it.
*cough* Our next bout's April 28th. *cough*
