I am so spoiled. I am so goddamned ridiculously spoiled. I have the best team ever, really I do. (It's a horrible parenthetical aside that it's taken the behavior of other teams to help me see that. I should've known that before, I still should, but it's the kind of thing that perhaps needs to be driven home before I can understand it fully.)
Don't ask me about the bout just yet. I can't really talk about it. Or about the aftermath. Maybe tomorrow I'll have cute and clever words. (The words "empty victory" were used, and not by me, if that satisfies anyone's curiosity.)
Meanwhile I really have to rethink the whole notion of friendslocking and what that means; issues of identity and suchlike. And we goddamned fucking need an outside fucking ref or two, or four, because well, I'm not talking about that.
But I am so lucky. My team is so amazing, and I haven't yet figured out whether it's due more to the actual, somewhat-random selection of women on it, or due to the influence of our amazing team captain, but we are actually, honestly, objectively so much better in so many ways than luck or chance could possibly explain. I had no idea how awful, by comparison, "normal" is.
Meanwhile we are all going to pray our goddamn heads off for Lizzie McFighter and hope that it's not true that she has a dislocated patella, as that would be a career-ending injury, and we want our Lizzie forever, yes we does.
