I just got a phone call from Z.
He was just in a car accident.
Someone made a left turn in front of him, like right in front of him, so he hit their passenger's side with the front of the Prius.
The Prius is apparently in pretty damn rough shape.
He claims to be fine.
But then he said, "What do I do?"
I was blank for a moment. "Have you called the police?!" I said.
"Uh, the other guy is," he said.
"Have... have you called the insurance company?"
"Oh right," he said. "Right. That's what I do. Uh, what's the, where's the phone number?"
"Honey," I said, "their emergency contact card is clipped to the passenger's-side visor. Honey, are you sure you're ok?"
"Yes," he said. "Oh good, there's the card. OK, I'll call them. Thanks. OK, I'll let you know how things go. Bye."
SHIT.
Shit shit shit.
I can't even go there, as we only have the one car.
And I have to work, so I have to leave in 1.5 hrs to catch the bus, and Z has to go tonight to do tech support at a video chat with Ralph Nader, and how is he going to get home, and I was already worried about how I was supposed to get home if I missed the 8:28 bus, and he was so confused on the phone, and SHIT.
SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT.

Date: 2007-03-02 04:46 pm (UTC)Hopefully the insurance will get him a rental car. I know they will if police rule it's the other guy's fault. Not sure if they'll do it if they decide it's his fault.
But if police are going there, they'll make sure he's okay and gets where he's going and all.

Date: 2007-03-02 05:30 pm (UTC)First, this is the time you call for friends for rides! If you've lost my phone number, it's 883-1075.
Second, even though it seems very clearly the other guy's fault, I guarentee that the insurance companies will rule it 50-50. They like to do that, so that no one pays out any money. So I'm saying, don't expect to get any kind of reimbursement for it.
Third, he's probably fine if he says he is. I remember an accident about 6 years ago, wherein I was just banged up a little, and not to my head, and it took me a few hours to realize how confused I was.
I hope things are pretty well under control by now.

Date: 2007-03-03 04:37 am (UTC)As long as the point of impact on the other person's car was the passenger front, they really should accept responsibility.
If for some reason they say they don't want to accept 100%, you can argue your way up to a higher %.
When someone hit me last year, the ins company only wanted to give me 50%. 5 angry phone calls later (1 with a supervisor), they accepted 90%.

Date: 2007-03-03 03:00 pm (UTC)heebiejeebie: what do you think? The situation is this: two driving lanes + left-hand-turn lanes in each direction, I'm in the rightmost lane; Dude is in left-hand-turn lane, opposite direction. Dude turns left. Once I realize he won't make it I try to avoid him by changing into the left driving lane. There's a car in my driver's side blind spot, so I speed up [so yes I am going over the speed limit], but I'm still boxed in and can't make the lane change. Slam on brakes, slam square into front passenger side door of the other car, a pickup.

What insurance company does the other guy have? Do you have collision and rental coverage? Have you spoken to them yet? I hope it isn't allstate... I hate them. I work for geico.

Sigh, the other insurance company called and said they couldn't complete their evaluation because they couldn't get the hood open. Nobody's even opened the hood since the accident!! This is going to take forever.

Date: 2007-03-03 04:34 am (UTC)If it was passenger side front door or front fender, the other insurance company most likely will accept responsibility for the accident and pay for your car. Make sure to ask them to put you in a rental car.
I work in insurance claims. I know EVERYTHING about what happens in insurance with an accident.
Z very well may be feeling back and neck pain next morning, if it was a good hit. He may hurt alot, but it will get better on it's own with rest.
