awesome weekend; unrelated things
Jan. 29th, 2007 09:44 amI want this very badly, but it's not quite my size. Who wants to reverse-engineer the pattern for me?
On an unrelated note, when out of curiosity I googled "this" to see what came up, I found that the #1 result was this, which sort of made my day.
And unrelated to either of the above, all of Z's coworkers are feeling ill, and Windows Vista was finally released today. Coincidence? Or not?
I have terrible hiccups. [ETA: they have passed, within five minutes, which is a long time but is over now.]
I bought myself some echinacea pills in a moment of madness and frustration yesterday. I don't know if I'll actually take them. I doubt they'll actually help. But I've been sick an awful lot this winter and I'm tired of it. Maybe I should've just bought some Vitamin C but that's one vitamin I know I get an awful lot of in my diet...
Yesterday was actually a pretty awesome day.
1) Went to practice. I carpooled with a new teammate, "Lizzie McFighter", who used to be a roller derby coach in Memphis and has just moved to Buffalo. It was so nice to talk to her because she had all these nice things to say about our team and our league, with an outsider's perspective. Also she's a pretty interesting person anyway so even without roller derby discussions it was nice to hang with her.
2) Went to lunch with Z and Lizzie. See above for why that ruled.
3) Got home from lunch and thought about things. Hm. Let's do something, I said. Let's go sledding or something. (It was about 30 degrees and bright and sunny and not windy.) OMG, Z said, Let's go sledding, and we actually got off our asses and did so. We bought a pair of sleds at the hardware store, drove down to Chestnut Ridge Park, and slid down that giant hill, where about three hundred other people who'd had the same idea were doing the same thing.
It was one giant sheet of packed snow, almost ice, and you could really fly down that thing. It was crazy. We definitively established that I am far, far faster on a sled than Z, because I am much heavier. Once I followed him down and caught up to him at the bottom and managed to give him a nice clean solid push so he went whizzing off across the meadow at the bottom of the hill. Which was highly amusing.
However, on another trip down, he hit his ass on a bump, so he's sore today. :(
But we had an absolute blast. Then we came home, had some coffee, made up a grocery list, and
4) Went grocery shopping. It was a targeted run-- we'd just come for a couple dozen things, so we got in and out of there. Swung by Premier too so now we have Grand Marnier, which is an ambitious experiment in good taste. Came home and,
5) Made steak and mushroom pie for dinner. But not the classic recipe of my mother's-- no, we figured we'd try out the Joy of Cooking's version. And Joy's was pretty damn good. Instead of a full pie crust it calls for making biscuits to go over the top. Not a bad idea. Actually it tasted awesome. Also it called for two cups of beer, so we bought a growler of cream porter at Premier and went through the entire thing. Which is a lot of beer. Mmm, beer.
6) Came up with a few ideas for the sponsorship committee meeting tonight, and then Z fell asleep in my bed and stayed there. I've had a lot of snuggles this weekend. Which really is not a bad thing in the slightest. Yay!
