oversleepy musings
Jan. 15th, 2007 12:18 amit suddenly strikes me that not everyone sees pleasure as something to be delayed, the way i do.
not everyone thinks that something they particularly like-- a shirt that fits well, for example-- is something to be seldom worn so that it lasts longer.
i will 'save' something good by doing something less good every chance i get, so that the good thing will be kept nice longer.
i wonder how many times that's just meant that whatever i was saving, i never get to enjoy, because it goes bad or i outgrow it or whatever.
it struck me because, as i was getting ready for bed, i thought that i should take off the t-shirt i was wearing, which was a nice one that fits me well, and instead put on the shirt i slept in last night, that was uncomfortable. and i thought, you know, some people probably just wear the shirt they like better whenever they get a chance, instead of wearing the shirt they like less constantly in the hopes that it'll wear out so they'll have an excuse to get rid of it.
some people probably always use the best thing they have.
how weird that would be.
But I am still wearing the nice shirt.

Date: 2007-01-15 06:12 pm (UTC)I'm sure that Daughterly would have broken up with Tre anyway, but the straw that broke the camels back was that he found and took the presents she had hidden away for him for Christmas. There's no point to Christmas whatsoever, as far as I can see, if the reward isn't delayed allowing the anticipation to build.
Sister Mary wants to take some of my Christmas decorations and use them in her apartment just because I won't put them up in my livingroom on an every day basis. WTF? No. Just no.
OTOH, if you never use it, what was the point in having it? My grandmother took out the special dishes twice a year - Thanksgiving and Christmas. I use mine almost once a month.
However! I will NOT wear an uncomfortable shirt to bed. I value my sleep.
