A how-to, if anyone's unprepared for Talk Like A Pirate Day.

Not only did Z not hear from Buff State yesterday, he also got a flat tire on his way home, which meant he was late for dinner. The tires are, however, well within their warranty, so hopefully he can straighten this out rather promptly-- I'd intended to go grocery shopping and it's at times like this that I kind of wish I had a car. Because, um, we're almost out of, er, certain crucial supplies upon which I won't elaborate.

We went shopping on Sunday, but we only went to the liquor store. We're sort of set for the winter, though, barring Christmas presents. Mmm. And maybe vodka. We're low on plain unflavored vodka, believe it or not.

So I got a little silly last night-- you know, hot chocolate, with creme de cacao, and some weird locally-made maple liqueur, and, well, it just was a situation. We wound up going out to Record Theatre and buying $70 worth of music-- a Dylan live set, Holst's The Planets, a Kronos Quartet cd, and assorted other trouble.

Then we came home, Z passed out, and I got on HASA, intending to catch up on reviewing fic there. Instead I spaced out reading and not commenting at all (I hate when I do that) and then was inspired to post a vignette I wrote all but the last two lines of several months ago. It's a combination of a reaction to a discussion in Anglachel's Hands of the King forum-- given that Imrahil knew Thorongil, he will undoubtedly know him upon his return as Aragorn, and what will he think?-- and also contains elements of a reaction to Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels, namely the scene where Chamberlain is faced with using his own brother as just another soldier to plug a hole in the line. It's short-- under 1500 words-- and is called "Seven Stars".
Anyway, I was sober when I wrote it, but drunk when I finished and posted it. If there's any interest I'll post it on my website for those of you who don't like HASA for some reason or other. What I was trying to do yesterday was updating the draft of Barbarians Novel that's on my protected website: Over the last two weeks I have done a great deal of polishing and as a result the piece is much better than it was in the past. I am trying to get the first three chapters polished up enough to enclose with a query letter. One of these days I have to get down to the library to start looking through the Writer's Market and find agents' addresses. I am not going to be a nitwit and submit to Miss Snark, thanks.
Anyhow, I had problems with the computer (which we'll just say needed a restart and some time to itself), and so I've only updated chapters one through... five? Bah. So I have more work to do, but today is Work. However, it's the Take The Later Bus To Work day, so I have more time than otherwise.

Oh, roller derby practice times are up: Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30-10:30 pm, Fridays 9-11 am, and Sundays 8:30-10:30 am. So i'll be needing the car on Fridays.

If Z gets the Buff State job, it'll be a shorter commute yet, by car, but by bus, he would have to take two separate buses to get there. He hasn't looked into it in detail yet, but it's likely it'd take him much longer to get there. So I'm rethinking: maybe just maybe I'll start looking for a car if he gets that job. It might be smart. I don't know.

In other news my company has suddenly announced they'll be reimbursing monthly bus passes. I had been considering getting one, but only taking the bus four days a week means it's not quite worth it (I think it's only a savings if you bus five days a week). But if they're paying for it? Pff. Sure!

Other things remain to be updated about, from this weekend, but I cannot think of them now and this grows long. Must go have apple pie for breakfast. Mmm, apple pie.

Oh yes-- in case I'm wondering later, yesterday's the day when I did like eight loads of laundry, changed the sheets, put all the pillows out in the sun to kill the dust mites, and cleaned the basement and emptied the fishtank. Yup, that was yesterday.
