GUH. There was A Little Black Raincloud hovering over JFK airport today, which meant that there were delays to that airport and that airport only: Newark and LaGuardia were both still flying.
Which was funny, except that I'm right by all the fugging JetBlue gates. GUH.

Got out of work at 9:30 and went and sat on the shuttle bus for 15 minutes because they've just changed their policy now to go every 15 minutes from the employee lot to the airport, regardless of how many people are on board and whether they're late for their shifts. Yep.
Then I drove straight downtown and met Z and a bunch of e:peeps at the Century Grill, which was great.
Then I came home and invented a new drink, which is basically a Cosmo only with blue curucao instead of Cointreau, and blueberry juice instead of cranberry. It's ok, but turned out almost black. I must tweak the recipe, but not now, as I am motherfucking hammered. Whoa seriously.

So then I was reading my flist, and I saw [livejournal.com profile] maggiehoneybite do that meme where you grab the nearest book and flip to a page and write the sentence, and I glanced around: what's the nearest book?
Well, there's a whole stack on the desk, but they are being used to support the fan in the window that doesn't quite fit on the sill. I had just decided that it was justifiable to use one from the shelf just above the desk when I thought, hey, she didn't tag me, I don't have to do it. But then I noticed that the person who had tagged her is a mutual friend. Hm, I thought: wonder who she tagged?
So I scrolled and scrolled and clicked "previous 20", and sure enough, [livejournal.com profile] lenine2 tagged me.

So heck with it! The pile holding up the fan Is Not To Be Disturbed. Also it is on my desk for that sole purpose, and I carefully chose those books because they were ones I wouldn't want to read.
So the nearest book not actually involved in anything structural appears to be the Penguin Classics version of The Mabinogion.

Oh! I forgot to type anything here.

Right. Meme. Where was it?
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
6. Tag five people.

Damn these some long-ass sentences. You ask a lot. Damn I cannot spell after this much vodka (and also three beers). The paiiiiinnnnn!

The messengers then entered the hall and saw the two lads playing gwyddbwyll on the golden couch and the white-haired man seated in the ivory chair at the base of the column carving gwyddbwyll men; they saw the girl seated in the chair of red gold, and they knelt down before her and hailed her as Empress of Rome. 'Sirs, you have the look of noblemen, as well as the badge of messengers,' she said. 'Why then do you mock me?'

Right.
The only commentary I have to offer is that gwyddbwyll is pronounced "gwuthbu{w}th" (with {w}th being an inexplicable noise made out the side of your mouth, the lateral fricative to be precise), and probably is a cognate with the Irish fidchell which is a type of chess. Other than that... Your guess is as good as mine.

Strangely there's a bookmark at page 168 and I don't know why. It seems to be marking this passage, a poetic interlude:
Kei made a leash
From the beard of Dillus son of Eurie;
If Dillus were alive he would kill you.

You can't fuck with that.
(BTW, Kei is the same Sir Kay from the Arthurian legends; a lot of this book is myths predecessing the Victorianized Arthurian legends.)

Oh right. Tagging. Sort of silly. I should tag people. Hmmm... God, it says I have 90 friends but it doesn't seem like that many when I look! [Is that a pathetic number? Ought I to care?]
[livejournal.com profile] aesc, [livejournal.com profile] kkatowll, [livejournal.com profile] leopard_lady, [livejournal.com profile] silverwerecat, [livejournal.com profile] mother2012-- what do you all read most often? I find myself genuinely curious. I don't read all that often, as evidenced by the fact that my closest non-structural book was a complete surprise to me. (There is a copy of Artvoice on my desk, actually obscuring my mouse partially, but the meme didn't ask about periodicals! [Yes, the copy with my picture and Z's column. I picked it up downtown.])

And that's that. In other news, I hurt my pinky at work-- like the tendon in my hand that controls it, I assure you there is a tendon in your hand that controls it and HURTS AGONIZINGLY if you damage it, although I would've sworn it just shares a tendon with the ring finger, but that is NOT TRUE, my nerve endings inform me unambiguously-- and also I was recently filled with very deep thoughts about how the very fact that Z is so thoroughly inoffensive to me makes him valuable simply because I do not have to waste effort on Wishing For Love In My Life (he wore a t-shirt today, the shirt said "Djörk", it was adorable, I insisted on [deleted for TMI*] when we came home) and am free not to worry about it, but there is always something else society is telling you to worry about, so I've sort of lost the train of thought. Also my blueberry thing had an assload of vodka in it. I should go to bed.

_______
*That's a lie. I never typed anything there at all: i just typed [deleted for TMI]. HA HA HA it's a paradox! Has it been censored again? THE WORLD WILL NEVER KNOW!
