Just walked Bert over to our house to keep her amused while I did the gardening. She's very, very old. She really can't walk that far. I carried her part of the way. How not ready to be a mom am I? I thought a 25-pound dog, who was being very still and well-behaved, would break my arm. Dag she was heavy. And hot. And hairy.
What's 25 pounds? A three-year-old? And they wiggle?
Fuhgeddaboutit.
Picked a zillion cucumbers, a bunch of dill, some mint, and assorted peas and lettuce. I think I must zip down to the grocery store and buy yogurt so I can make tzatziki, cuz I don't know what else I'd do with mint and dill and cukes.
I sort of wish we were at home to take better advantage of the garden, but on the other hand, with this heat wave, I am very grateful for the a/c here at Z's mom's.
I have two links which I have to post. But first I have to quit Firefox and restart it because the fucker has frozen on me without acknowledging that it's frozen, which is annoying. Apologies,
silverwerecat; I was in the midst of trying to comment on your most recently-posted story, and it ate the comment. i will try to remember to recreate it.
1) Z's latest column, featuring the world's most awful photograph.
2) I want to learn to drive like this. The opening credits to a French movie, featuring a scooter similar to Z's driven by a pizza delivery stunt man. Please realize that the conveyance he is riding is the kind where you put your feet in front of you, not on either side-- so when he sticks his leg off the side, it is not because that's where his leg ought to be. No, he is using his leg as a counterweight because otherwise the thing'll skid out. They're not meant for such sharp turns. We think he's striking sparks off the kick start on one side and the cowl on the other. And the final stop? That's what happens when you have a front disc brake and apply it too hard. I've almost done that by accident. Most impressive, I suppose, is that he has to be doing all the stunts at full speed, unlike most movie car chases, because the physics of it simply wouldn't work slowed down.
But isn't that the greatest thing ever? My next book is going to have a heroine who rides like that.
