fanfiction.net is a bunch of retards
Apr. 24th, 2006 08:12 amI have a couple of stories up on Fanfiction.net, simply because I knew other people who had accounts there and it seemed amusing. HASA has always been my primary archive, and the only one I really took seriously, and I say that not because I want to provoke people who I know have left that site in all sorts of drama (of their making or not), but because I've never had any drama there and really like a few of the people there that I don't know from anywhere else. (I chose it because when I first got into fanfic, I Googled on my favorite characters, and all the actually-good stories I found were hosted there.)
One of these stories on fanfiction.net is an old one of mine, called "Unworkable A/U". It was written in frustration when a HASA reviewer of my very first fanfic story, the inevitable Eomer-POV gapfiller of the coming of Aragorn etc. to Meduseld (The Clasp Undone), protested that there was no way Eomer could not have known of Theodred's death three days earlier and over a hundred miles distant. I wrote the story out of an attempt to explain instantaneous communication in Third Age Rohan.
I never submitted it for review at HASA, but I have received a good deal of feedback on it, as people found it not only funny but actually dramatic despite its AU-ness and, well, the joke at the core of it. (The joke, for those who do not care to read it, is that they achieved instant communication by using an instant-messaging program.)
I just got a message that it's been removed from fanfiction.net.
Obviously whoever is responsible never actually read the fucking thing.
I think it's time to remove myself from fanfiction.net, although I would like to know if there is anywhere I can appeal this. Just to let them know what phenomenal idiots they are before I leave. I've only ever gotten like three comments from them (two on that story, actually), and so am not exactly going to cry, but I am exceedingly annoyed.
It's a good thing I don't actually use my fanfiction.net account.
In other news: I have today off. Scheduling manager randomly gave my Monday shift to the most junior girl because she wanted Friday and Saturday off, and so the scheduling manager put me in the Club on Friday to cover for her, so she took away today, which is a bid shift in my bid schedule, to clear the way to let me work on Friday. Ha ha ha ha. No. So I said I couldn't work Friday, becaues I have better things to do with my life than sit for seven hours and make three drinks and make two dollars.
I really have no idea what to do about work. I could take the full-time schedule. I'd make reasonable money. A year ago I'd've been ecstatic. It's a better schedule than I used to have.
But I don't want it, because I am not hurting for money like I was then, and because I have all this writing I want to do, and I cannot if I take that schedule. RRRGHH.

Main reason for removal: "Not allowed: interactive, chat/script, real person, mst, and etc."
The above story has been removed because it violated the guideline detailed on the upload page.
This infraction has been recorded and once you reach a certain limit, your account be automatically banned. Moreover, as a result of this infraction, you will not have upload access for a period of time.

no subject
Date: 2006-04-24 03:13 pm (UTC)I think, however, that it might be breaking the regulations ffn uses. They seem to be against script format (including movie/play script format) in any quantity being used in a fic.
Said regulations are idiotic, of course. And poorly described.
unworkable
Date: 2006-04-24 10:20 pm (UTC)Yes, it is obviously AU, but it fits the characters so well and also fits in so tightly with the JRRT plotline (apart from the AU communication elements, of course!) The build up is terrific, with the long ride behind him, the tools (chargers) in the stables but no internal combustion engine to get him around so much more quickly, and ultimately the tantalisingly short message from the scout (I am not into IM, but this came over well enough for even me to grasp).
So I cannot understand why FF have struck it off. Better to stick with HASA, I think. However, I am now going to have a look at your ff.net account - unless you have already jumped ship!
