Mar. 21st, 2006 05:25 pmIn case anyone was curious, this is one of those songs that's to the same tune as Rosc Catha Na Mumhan. It appears to be of Civil War vintage (Irish Civil War), and refers to a sort of ragtag British force of ex-military bullyboys who did all sorts of wonderfully awful things. Etcetera. So no, not about drinking.
Not to say that I think Jackdaw's great yet, but I'm giving them a real shot. They can't be that awful.
Which is not what I was going to post about. I actually forget what I was going to post about. I am in the midst of making dinner. I'd considered going out, but then, nothing struck me as all that tempting, and I know Z already ate lunch out today, which means if we go out again it'll be sort of too much for him, and honestly, I haven't washed my hair and don't really think leaving the house is that great an idea.
Proof of how very housewifely I really am is in the fact that I just found a tiny shard of broken glass in my iPod case. I was trying to deal with the Sink Full Of Fucking Dishes Jesus Christ (Z made dinner last night, and it involved using Almost All Of The Outsize Pots And Pans That Don't Fit In The Sink Let Alone Dishwasher-- not that I didn't appreciate the grilled shrimp and rice noodles, I just can't actually get into the sink to do any dishes) and dropped a glass onto myself trying to unearth the faucet. Oops. At least it was one of the little ones. I have an assload of those damn little ones.
In other news I have done some Cleaning today and now have my computer back on my desk. We'll see how long this lasts.

woo-hoo!
Date: 2006-03-29 11:51 pm (UTC)seriously, come see us live sometime. not at some bar on chippewa or anything like that - come see us down in the first ward at the swannie house when it's just us and our friends and the guys we grew up with. first pint's on me. it may not change your opinion about us or our music at all, but at the very least it's a night out with folks who've had weeks just as tedious as yours who want nothing more than to raise their glasses amongst friends and forget about monday for awhile.
and if nothing else, they've got really good wings.

Date: 2006-03-30 02:44 pm (UTC)Live music is much different from live recordings, certainly. I actually admit that I love just about anything live, but that doesn't just go for me. My boyfriend doesn't like Irish traditional music-- except live. He went to see Danu with my family a couple of years back and had the time of his life. (They are coming to Buffalo Friday night, by the way-- Rockwell Hall-- and they are WELL WORTH a listen. Their piper started off as just a bodhran player, and he's picked up the pipes in the last five years or so, but he's dynamite, and their singer's a really good blend of the ultra-traditional with the very "westernized"-- she does old-style singing but has such a voice, she could sing the blues. Like, Dolores Keane meets, like, Susan Tedeschi.)
But I would love to see you live, and I did seriously consider braving the Crocodile Bar, but I just can't get my jeans that low. I have no doubt you rock live, but perhaps the double b-sides-and-outtakes compilation CD is not the proper launch point from which to first sample Jackdaw's oevre.
:)
p.s. Do you really ride a Lambretta 150?
