So I just stood out on the curb at my bus stop, just down the street from my house, for thirty minutes.
I even had a copy of the schedule. The bus is scheduled to hit the major intersection about 4 minutes from my house at 11:12. I put on an album on my iPod at 11:something (first song over at 11:09 by my iTunes' reckoning), puttered a moment, and was to the bus stop by 11:15-- the timestamp on the end of a song I know I was listening to at the stop.
Usually I get out there at ten after eleven and stand there just long enough to feel like a total idiot. It usually comes at like 11:18. I was definitely out there by then.
I waited until 11:25, when the 30A came by. The A only goes to University Station. I need the C. The C goes to the airport. So the bus stopped, because I was there, and I asked the driver, "Is the C behind you? It's a little late."
He shrugged. "Should be," he said, which I took to mean, "yes, I am the A that comes before the C and we are running late." Such has happened before, and I've gotten on the A by accident before. The buses never run early. They run right around 3-5 minutes late.
So I waited until 11:40. The bus gets me to the airport by 11:54, so I pretty much waited for most of my bus ride right there. Finally I said, "Fuck, I can't feel my face" and went back inside. The fucking 30C never came and I'm just going to have to catch the next one. Fuck it. It gets me there at 2:15, five minutes after the last acceptable clock-in time. That's just how it has to be. I have the fucking iTunes timestamp to prove to myself that I was there at the time the bus is supposed to be there.
I can only assume that the A that came by was either the 10:45 or the 11:37-- but it was nearly twenty minutes off schedule either way. I really don't know. I'm bewildered. Either my cellphone, computer, iPod, digital thermometer/clock, and all my wall clocks are off, or the buses are running on some weird alternate-reality schedule today. Although, about a minute after the freak A departed eastbound, I saw a westbound C go by-- which was five minutes late to hit the next major intersection (sched at 11:22).
And i've just noticed that I spelled "overprivileged" wrong in my previous entry. Eh well. Privilege rots the brain.
Hey, now I have time for a nap. Although I have to get out there twenty minutes early to wait for the next bus, just in case they're still running on Bizarro Time by then.
