At 3 am I dreamed that an intruder had come into the house. In my dream I heard heavy booted footsteps and the person was an indistinct shape coming through my bedroom door. I was so terrified I tried to wake myself up. This half-succeeded, so that I dreamed the intruder's entry more vividly a second time, a young white man with long hair and a baseball cap walking into the room where I actually was (I was sleeping in Z's room, which faces the other way; I had initially dreamed I was in my room), turning so that he was in profile to the bed, and then cheerfully displaying his pistol, which had an outsized magazine. (It didn't look like any pistol I'd fired, but as I was waking up I convinced myself that that meant it was an automatic, the kind that can cut you in half.)
That scared me so much I succeeded in waking myself up, with terrible difficulty, and trying to scream but the heat was on and it was so dry I couldn't actually make a sound even once I was awake. Which was just as well, as it was 3 am. It was very windy, which I hate (schools yesterday were closed because of the high winds, I guess), and the neighbors' storm door was clanking, which might be why I dreamed I heard someone open the door. Some of the other thumpings and scrapings sounded like footsteps, a little, too, so I was justifiably terrified. Jesus, I hate windy nights.
Before we'd gone to sleep I had noticed a strange flash of light in the hallway. Z had gone out to look at it, but although I had seen it again while he was out there, he hadn't, so I had reluctantly concluded that my eyes were playing tricks on me. To me, it looked like a tiny indicator strobe light, white, somewhere in the (blurry) vicinity of the light fixture. But, of course, it was dark, and I had no glasses.
So at 3 am, as I'm lying there absolutely off my rocker with terror, I see it again. Tiny flash of white light, somewhere on the hall ceiling. I watch, and it happens again roughly every minute and a half. (Though, I'm timing it by the bedside clock, which I have to crane my neck over Z's sound-asleep bulk to see-- and it has no seconds indicator of any kind.)
It kept doing it, but I was so sleepy and terrified there was no way I was getting out of bed. Of course, now that it's morning and I could do something about it, I don't see it. I have no idea what it could be. Perhaps the light fixture is sparking? But wouldn't there be a sound with that? But that would be pretty dire...
I swear I saw it, though.
Anyway. It was a rough night.

As for the dream - yeah, dreams like that happen, but it's just possible that it was *sent* to warn you about the light.
Or something else.
I'd make sure my doors are *really* secure every night!
