I went to bed, finally, at about 4:30 this morning.
I awoke at 8:30 when Z had to get up for work. I am not a heavy sleeper: I just can't sleep through.
I asked Z to please please write the paragraph for the Christmas letter. "Oh!" he said, and it became clear that he had simply misunderstood: when I said I wanted him to write the paragraph, he thought I meant that... well, that I was writing it, or something. We don't need to analyze that. Point of the matter is, he then went and wrote it before going to work.

So I sent out the first batch of cards today-- the ones for people with whom I am actually in regular contact, who thus do not need the Christmas Explanatory Letter appended. Those are gone with the mailman, who exchanged them for a rather unpleasant gas bill. Eh well.
I didn't sign them because they're glossy and, well, the ink wouldn't stick. So I didn't sign them. And now I'm wondering whether that's really gauche or something. But they're ... photographs. I couldn't sign them. It would smear.
Should I have signed the backs? I guess I probably should have...
Well, ostensibly, the people receiving them either know me well enough not to care, or will care quietly so that I don't overhear and become offended. Or, will call me on it, and I'll apologize and mail them a signed postcard.
The other cards I'll do today. Sure.

Now that I'm here on the couch I have no sense of urgency. I ought to get some sleep, but I'm not sleepy. I ought to do something else, then, but I am utterly incompetent to actually perform any tasks, given how ill and sleep-deprived I am. So instead?

I've just spent three hours reading the archives of Strip Mining For Whimsy, which I believe is my favorite blog. The dude's some guy from Washington State who blogs about how fucking weird he is, and I tell you, his rants are the best. Also, his childhood was genuinely horrifying, and he writes about it with a truly absorbing sense of horror and humor.
Selections from his "Stuff That Happened" category (my previous favorite category is "Autobiographica", but those tend to be kind of intense. Not that most of it isn't kind of intense):
"Raging Asshole": a short rumination on assholery
Speaking of the Mountain Goats: a short account of a real-life workplace conversation involving the phrase "Hail Satan!"
"There outta be a law": adventures with Work, and Porn
"bang": an adventure with toner that has me laughing out loud to the point that I can't stop.
flickers and other things: he blogs things he'd never seen before
thin. pasty. walks around with his hands clasped behind his back and speaks in a monotone. Adventures at Radio Shack

Um. Your "Strip Mining" link isn't right. At first it was a link to my friends page, now it's a link to your page. May want to check that.
