let it snow
Dec. 12th, 2005 09:27 amSomeone was telling a story of a home Bills game (I don't recall the opponent, but I think it was some team from a less-snowy clime) where in the second half the heavens opened up and it just started snowing like a blizzard, and the PA system started playing "Let It Snow", and the fans went wild.
Yesterday was pretty snowy. The game was God-awful. Most memorable moment, for me, was when the Bills had been slogging across the field for goddamn ever and it came down to them realizing they couldn't get a touchdown, so they went for a field goal, and missed, and the camera got Lossman (the quarterback)'s reaction-- he looked like he'd been shot in the leg, and his face crumpled up and he fell over backwards in disbelief.
Lossman, by the way, is younger than me. But I digress.
The snow is drifting down this morning, peaceful and pretty. Yesterday it was coming down in ice, very unpleasantly. I went to clean off the car and under the snow was a fine layer of very hard ice. I gave up on the scraper and came inside and got a gallon jug of warm water, and dumped that over the windows, and voila! Clean in an instant. This may become my usual car-cleaning method-- it's been pretty damn effective on two crucial occasions thusfar, the first being when we couldn't find the scraper and I was faced with using a squeegee and my bare hands to clean off the windshield. "Fuck that," I said, "I have a hot water heater" and went back inside. I think I'm a genius, but the below-zero depths of January await my testing.
Yesterday was horrible at work. It was just so busy, and as on every Sunday I ran out of change. I am in only mild pain, however-- behind the bar I don't run into shit as much as I do when I have to get out and deal with tables. I actually didn't screw anything up yesterday either. That was kinda nice. But the game was awful. It was an awful game. I mean... well, at least they got a touchdown, and put something up on the board. I guess we'll leave it at that, and at Next Year, as ever. Not like I know a damn thing about football anyway. Look at me, talking about sports. Ha.
Today will be futile and pointless. But then I have tomorrow off. I am going to finish the two recipe books tomorrow. One way or another. And do the Christmas cards. Maybe tonight we'll mix up the piparkukas-- I forgot they need 24 hours in the fridge.
I feel like I've been away, or something. How long has it been since I last updated? ... Then again, I often feel like I'm not really living in my own life, so it's not Livejournal I've been away from.
