Oh! I didn't notice before on the NaNo site that there was a "writing buddies" feature. I should go add y'all to that. Who was participating, again? I think I'll just type in the usernames of everybody on LJ who I think is doing it. ^.^ Mine's the same, anyway.

I don't know what I'll do this year. I think I'm just going to try to write every day or so, and see what i can get done. this isn't a good time for me. But I've actually posted something to this journal (f-locked) every day for the last three days, so that's something.

Z's going to have a column in the newsweekly. The editor was trying to get him to write a gadget column, and in the midst of being a noodge and refusing to do it, he wrote four hilarious humor pieces on his struggles with technology. He sent them to the editor and she thought they were hilarious and wants to publish them. So, perhaps not every week, but frequently, there will be a column called "Gewgaws and Gimcrackies" starring Z. Anyone who has any gadgets they think should be profiled should feel free to mail them to Z care of me. :D

I haven't updated this in a couple of days because I was writing (!) (I know), so I never mentioned the debut of Z's boobs. See, on Friday night we went to a couple of coworkers' parties, costume parties, and as is traditional, I made a costume out of things I had around the house. This was fun. I went as a candy-and-cigarettes girl from 40s-era theatres. I had a pillbox hat (made of cardboard and kept on by the fact that it just fit over the bun on the side of my head), a black brocade corset (under which I wore a bra because it is Fredericks' of Hollywood and cannot be trusted with my boobs), a black brocade skirt hiked up to be quite short indeed, a white lace petticoat to give it some pouf, and black nylon stockings with a seam up the back. I also had a tray of candy cigarettes. Real live candy cigarettes.
The costume was a big hit, except that half the time I didn't have the tray so people didn't know what I was and were basically just complimenting me on my boobs, which were kind of on display. (More modestly than in some past years, though, I might mention. I grow old.) At the first party a girl in a tiny ill-fitting Lycra nurse costume kind of bonded with me over the fact that I was pretty much the only thing that didn't make her just look like a total slut entirely, which wasn't a role I exactly cherished, but she actually was kind of fun and while I know the party hostess didn't like her, I kind of did. (She was reputed to be a stripper but I'm not sure I believed that.)

However. My boobs (and the nurse's) were kind of overshadowed by... Z.
He went as a Catholic Schoolgirl Gone Wild. This involved a lot of safety pins, as I put my skirt on him and it fell right off. He can't be more than a size four or six in women's clothes. I am a size fourteen. This did not make for happyfun cute fit. This made for must-be-safety-pinned-in-multiple-places fit.
So he wore a short gray wool-looking skirt I have, pinned twice so it stayed up, and a white blouse of mine, tied up to bare his midriff and because it fit him like a tent otherwise. Under the blouse he wore an old bra of mine, a pink satin number. Inside the bra he put pink water balloons, which gave him disturbingly realistic boobs in terms of weight, shape, heft, and give. It also gave him the screaming heebie-jeebies every time someone fondled him because he was terrified the balloons would burst, and it was bitter cold on Friday night.
He also wore my gold crucifix set with white crystals, which sat amid the sparse hair on his chest and twinkled merrily all evening long. And his real hair, in pigtails, which was everyone's second question (after they enquired about the boobs): "Is that your real hair?"

For footwear we didn't have anything really great, so he wore knee socks and his plain black boots, which are at least unisex.

His bare midriff was actually quite sexy, as he has no fat whatsoever. Except that he is male, and thus, well, the treasure trail begins at his collarbones, pretty much, and is just about the darkest hair on his body. His hairy legs weren't nearly so distressing, as the hair is blond and just forms a kind of force-field. The belly hair-- I think it's cute, but not on a woman.

Anyhow. We were an adorable pair. And because I had heels and also supernaturally levitated boobs (yay corsets, even unreliable ones), when he and I stood next to each other (as we did frequently, huddled for warmth) our boobs were at the same height. So it was kind of funny from that perspective. Nurse-Costume-Girl stood with us and her friend took a picture of The Boobs. It was amusing.

But do I have a picture? NO, I do not. So, sorry.

Other than that, I have to call Fancy Restaurant today. I am not tired from work because of a) the day off on Sat and b) it has been DEAD and there has been nothing to do. Yesterday I actually sat for three hours at the bar because there were no customers. It was surreal. The Management actually noticed how dead it was and (wonder of wonders) sent people home, although indirectly-- two of the bartenders used to be cashiers, and they were short several cashiers, so they made the two bartenders a deal that if they would act as cashiers they could go home four hours early. Needless to say, these girls were smart enough to realize that they'd make no money bartending either, and who doesn't want to get out early on Halloween? So they happily did so, and skipped merrily out the door, leaving me to close Torture Bar on my own, and thus pretty much guaranteeing that I'd manage to scrape up an extra $20 out of a horribly meager 8-hour day. (I was asked, and asked politely, so I said yes. I am not entirely a horrible bitch. And really that's pretty much the secret to getting me to do something.) On the bright side, every customer was really polite and friendly. Because they had the place to themselves and had my undivided attention, and I had the effort to spare to knock their socks off with friendliness. It was kind of fun but I really don't ever want to do it again, and probably will. Bah.
I also have to clean the house today and do a bunch of other things I will probably not do because I really really really really want to write, but don't know what. Show of hands: who thinks I should see the current LotR 4th-Age plotbunny to its conclusion? Who thinks I should chuck it and start writing something else? Ah, heck, time for a poll:

[Poll #602702]

For "all of the above" just check 'em all; that's why i made ticky boxes rather than ticky buttons.

Oh! I didn't notice before on the NaNo site that there was a "writing buddies" feature.

Add me! Since I have no idea how to add you or anyone else at the time....

I think I added you. What's the username you're using on that site? I guessed 'werecat' because "silverwerecat' got a "no user by that name" error.

I don't know how you tell if you've been added, though. :/

I do know that you can add somebody by finding their profile and clicking "friend"-- or when you're viewing your own profile, on the left down the side there's a link called "writing buddies" that if you click you can type in people's names and add them. I think you could also do it by doing a search and finding people you know by guessing their names, and once you find their profile you can friend them.

Yeap. "Werecat" it is.

What's yours, so I can go over there and mess things up?

I'm Jeneral over there. I'd have been Jeneral on LJ too, but I didn't think of it in time. Dang.

And I voted for the barbarian thing, because research should never be wasted. Good luck!

I figured you out too. I am so clever!! Clever me. :D

I think I'm into the barbarian thing too. I dearly want to write something in a genre that like people I know in real life would read, but I'm sort of, well, I'm sort of a fantasy writer. :.
Oh well.

Hee!

Well, I just wish I could write something that wouldn't reduce Z to a mass of giggles. But it's not really my fault he can't cope with fantasy. I know he likes my writing, he just doesn't like my novels. Oh well!

And yet sometimes when he makes fun of me I get good ideas, like today, so that's just how it'll have to be. :D

I rather think I'll be writing a collection of lots of things.

Are the names at least changed in yours?? I'm not sure how these things work.

Nnnnnot this year....

This year I'm still at zero...
If I don't break 10k today/tomorrow, I don't think I'll make it to 50k at all. Just looking at my time constraints.

I don't participate, even if I had an idea translation would kill me. Or writting in English ;) Anyway, I think I should rather finish the drawings I started, some WIPs are waiting months already ;)

And for you - do the barbarians and try the essays. I keep my fingers crossed :)
