you can be a bubble-head
Sep. 21st, 2005 01:48 pmI now have a motorcycle helmet. It's a Z1R brand, which means little to nothing to me. It's matte black, and is a 3/4 helmet meaning it covers my whole head, and down over my ears-- but not my chin. I got a model that has the pull-down face-shield, because I am leery of finding good goggles given that I wear glasses 9/10 of the time but occasionally break out the contacts for special occasions. Z's planning on getting some prescription goggles, and as an interim measure has bought some badass sunglasses. His helmet's similar to mine only without the face shield.
Now I'm trying to think of good helmet-friendly hairstyles. My usual, twisting my hair up into a bun on the back of my head, is most definitely not at all compatible, and leaving it down to get windblown would be an exceedingly poor idea indeed. Z, for some reason, really likes Ukranian Power Braids; I would love to know how that hairstyle is done, but had to burst his bubble by pointing out that there's no way that would ever fit under a properly-fitted helmet (as mine is-- when I move the helmet, it moves my scalp).
Other than that I have done little of note today. I did get in a really good nap, which I hope helps dispel the last of this stupid cold I have. As a side note I will here point out that I am wearing a pair of brown denim pants I bought whilst a freshman in college, and which I haven't worn in years as they were too tight and I looked stupid. But they fit today, ha ha. I am a foxy fox.
Now-- off to plant bulbs!

Date: 2005-09-21 07:54 pm (UTC)I do a similar hairstyle, wherein I make two braids (one just behind each ear) and cross them over, but it's hard to get them to stay in place, and I am plagued by what to do with the ends. Perhaps I am simply unskilled in bobby pins-- I have to use largeish clips instead. My hair is only long enough to go around one full time and a little extra, which means i have to secure it behind the same ear where it started. It used to be longer, but the ends were very thin.
I think one braid would be troublesome-- isn't it much thicker at one end than the other? Or is that just because I need a haircut?
Hm. Well. I had thought perhaps that particular hairstyle might involve some sort of French-braiding techniques, as that would make the braid more consistent and would keep it anchored firmly in place, but I am so entirely not a girly girl that I really have no idea how one would go about doing that. I don't even have any girl friends. Z's ponytail is certainly long enough but he's a bit leery of me playing with his hair. :/
But I believe the hairstyle must be fairly quick to do-- I can braid at a fantastical pace, and i used to have a hairstyle that involved my hair being divided into six small braids and then sort of woven over my head (it looked terrible but I thought it was nifty), and I could do it in maybe twenty minutes, usually while reading email-- and that was back when I could sit on my hair. (Now it just touches my butt and freaks me out when I'm not paying attention and am standing around in my underwear. [True story. I thought there was a spider on my ass. Z couldn't stop laughing.])

Yeah, the pin thingies she showed me are *huge*. I don’t even entirely understand how they stay in place.
…Oh hey, I see in today’s post that you achieved this hairstyle! And that it fits in the helmet! Huzzah! You should take a picture so I can see. :D

Date: 2005-09-23 12:27 am (UTC)I've taken pictures, but they're still on the camera and, well, the computer the camera connects to is... well, I'm lazy, is what it amounts to. Once we get the scooter I'll take like a bazillion more pictures, and then I'll post a whole batch of 'em at once.
