my BIRFDAY
Aug. 26th, 2005 12:00 amis in like ten minutes.
Wheee!
Today I worked 9ish to 5ish sort of, so I swung by Z's work on his way home and picked him up and we went out to dinner together like on a date. It was awesome. Had a blast, and also whiskey, which is a good thing, hurrah.
Work was surreal in that the power went out for 2 hours, and so we were given an emergency 'crash kit' and told to keep on keepin' on. The kit included carbon paper to give people copies of their receipts, a flashlight in case we needed to go into the back room (which had no emergency lights-- nor did the bar, but some light came in from the hallway), a list of all the prices of our products including tax, and a calculator.
It was a solar-powered calculator.
And the lights were off.
Yes. A solar-powered calculator.
In the dark.
I am so proud of my bosses. Anyhow. The work proved not difficult really in the end, but I drank so much coke, diet coke, random soda while keeping myself alert that I wound up quite hyper, to the amusement of all.
And no, there were no plane delays despite the airport being without power: the tower was still operational, and any delays were less than half an hour and due mostly to the fact that the jetways couldn't be operated and so passengers had to be escorted out the emergency exits onto the runways and up stairs to the plane doors. Security had power, as did the goddamn gift shop, but no, not the bars. A few customers came in and looked surprised at the dim light, and asked for wings or pizza, and we had to explain to them that the power was out. "What, just in here?" "Um, no, the whole airport actually." "Really?" "Really." "... So if I go down the hall to the other restaurant can I get wings?" "... ... ... Yes. Go for it." Nonono, I am always polite.

Date: 2005-08-26 12:15 pm (UTC)It's hard to do the Marilyn Monroe version of Happy Birthday via LJ, considering it's really relies on you being able to see me scrunch up my breasts and hear me sing all breathy-like. But dammit, if I lived near you, I'd do it for you. :D Heheheh!
I do hope you do something really wonderful either tonight or this weekend. Do a big shot for me of something that spreads a lovely warmth through the belly. :p
